In this instruction we will look at how you can make a skateboard on an electric motor. He has quite such small wheels, which allows him to easily navigate on not particularly smooth asphalt or even dirt roads. The author bought the bulk of the details, so it cost him a pretty penny. However, on the other hand, when you buy parts, everything is going quickly and you need to invent nothing.
In any case, this article will be a good example for you.
Materials and tools for homemade:
- large wheels;
- driven sprocket and chain;
- batteries ();
- plywood;
- bolts and nuts;
- motor (the author has brushless) ();
- a regulator for the engine;
- wires;
- controller for charging the battery ();
- wrenches, screwdrivers;
- soldering iron;
- drill;
- Bulgarian and more.
Homemade manufacturing process:
Step one. Fasten the driven sprocket to the wheel
First of all, you have to install an asterisk on the wheel, this is one of the most crucial steps. The main requirement here is that the sprocket is clearly in the center of the wheel, otherwise the chain will constantly fly off, and it will be impossible to pull it. You must also take care of a secure fit.
The wheels are different and the sprockets, respectively, can be mounted in different ways. The author decided to fix the asterisk through a special adapter, which he cut out of plywood.
First of all, we cut out the disk that is necessary in diameter, it will have to be attached to the wheel disk. Next, we drill holes for fixing screws in it. To fix this part to the wheel, the author drilled 5 holes. Also drill a hole in the center through which the wheel axis will pass.
In addition, you have to drill three more holes, through them will pass the screws that secure the sprocket.
In the end, everything can be collected. First, a piece of plywood to the wheel disc, using 8 bolts with nuts. Next, we attach an asterisk with three more bolts. At the end you will have to increase the hole for the axis.
Step Two Electronics
At this step, you have to deal with the electrical circuit. The author used the brushless motor, the ESC speed controller goes to him.You must also determine the capacity and type of batteries used. The author used lithium for such purposes.
To assemble all the electronics, stock up with solder and heat shrink. A more detailed assembly process, see the photo.
Step Three Chain drive
The author transmits the torque from the engine using a chain, but a belt is also suitable. Here the most important task will be to correctly determine the ratio of stars. And how to calculate it depends on the features of the engine. The higher the engine speed, the stronger they will need to be underestimated. You also have to find or even make an asterisk for the engine. However, you can buy it. You can find a similar spare part in a scooter and similar equipment.
Step Four Mounting plate
To securely fasten the engine on a skateboard, the author makes a mounting plate, this part is an aluminum corner in which mounting holes are drilled.
You also have to make several brackets that will allow you to mount the engine on a mounting plate. Everything is assembled on bolts with nuts, and aluminum corners and plates are used as the material.
Step Five Completion
After installing the engine, the main work can be considered finished. You just have to connect all the electronics, secure the battery and controllers, and also install controls in a convenient place.
After installing the chain, you need to pull it, removing the extra links. Try turning on the motor and make sure that the chain does not fall and that the engine creates enough traction to drive.
