Good day to all. I bring to your attention my version of manufacturing a fairly convenient self-reeling extension cord from the parts of a "killed" imported vacuum cleaner.




On the Internet there are many options for similar designs, which used plastic scraps from the body of the vacuum cleaner itself. The idea was to make a completely independent device case from materials and parts that were readily available and at hand.


In this design used:
- Details from the PHILIPS vacuum cleaner.
- Two twin sockets 16A.
- The handle is furniture.
- LDSP 16 mm thick.
- Edge tape.
- Plywood 6mm thick.
- Coupler furniture 5X50mm.
- Screws with a diameter of 3.5mm.
- Fasteners M3, M4.
- Colorless varnish XB-784.

Of the tools used:
- A drill on a rack.
- Jigsaw.
- The grinding machine.
- Iron.
- Screwdriver, wire cutters, etc.

Used coil parts with wire from a vacuum cleaner.



Parts cut from laminated chipboard 210x80x16mm - 2pcs, 168x80x16mm - 2pcs, with holes and a handle. The inner surface of the wire holes and buttons are varnished.



Parts cut out of plywood with dimensions of 210x200x6mm with holes. Plywood is sanded and varnished.



Assembled body frame. Details are connected by furniture ties 5x50mm.






The back panel of the housing with mounting screws M4 and M3.

The lock release button is made of an aluminum rod with a diameter of 17.5 mm. The restrictive washer is cut out of the felt-tip pen body and is simply very tightly mounted on the shaft.

Extension cord assembly. The heads of screws and screeds are sealed with self-adhesive furniture plugs.



The length of the fully unwound wire is 9M. Case size (without sockets and handles) 210x200x92mm. The total power of the connected load is up to 2.2 kW.

What does twisted pair signal transmission have to do with a bifilar?
Ferrite filters suppress only high-frequency common mode noise and do not suppress a useful differential signal.
But a hundred meters of an ordinary SHVVP wire in a low-frequency spectrum inductance too. Because .. read the wiki.
Inductance does not depend on the frequency of the signal passing through it.

And who determined this? Fire expert? So one of them frankly said to me, tanning inside is a short circuit, tanning is detected, arson, and it doesn’t matter that someone who has not extinguished the “goby” has thrown into a corner where there are no sockets. It’s easiest to blame for short-circuiting, and that an oiled rag, especially in the heat (and any rubbish including) can catch fire itself, to prove it is how much trouble.

There is this type of winding of transformer windings - bifilar. This is when the winding is made of two insulated wires. If one end is connected to the signal source, and the other is short-circuited (or the active load is turned on), then the current will flow in wires in different directions, i.e. towards each other. Thereby compensating each other's magnetic fields. The inductance of such a coil is practically 0. If someone does not agree, then read about the twisted pair wire used to transmit signals.

You will come to hand over the work to the Customer, he has prepared the money, he is happy with everything, the light is on, you will not redo all the boxes ... So it is here. What's the point, everything was marked, assembled, and the electricians at the outlet plugged in whatever way.

I do not want to repeat myself, but if you are interested in issues with heating and inductance, then this was discussed in the comments on homemade My webpage. I also gave a comparative calculation of the heating from the active and inductive resistances of the cable.
Concerning the marking of wires, an example from Soviet times, when they did not think about marking, grounding and other zaum. I can’t remember exactly, but either the amplifier, or the tape recorder “fonil” when the plug was plugged into the network in one position, and stopped when the plug was “turned over”. Now, when we connected domestic gas boilers, we always marked on the plug what pin the phase was on, otherwise an error sometimes popped up and the boiler did not start. Most likely this is due to the fact that literally everything is crammed with various electronics and processors.

In general, when people take an extension cord for work, they, I think, know what kind of load they will include! What power is both long-term or short-term. Accordingly, the length / cross section of the extension must somehow be selected, not?
... The fact that your extension cord, when it was wound into a bay, blazed up, only says that it was not picked up correctly - when it was unwound it was also a “heater” that heated the air, taking some of the energy from the consumer))) )
By the way, I recently showed a person 225 Volts on one side and 201 on the other side of his extension cord when working, when he said "Yes, do not get thicker! This one works fine!"

I want to say about the fact that the wire wound into a coil is supposedly heated no more than the unwound one. Stronger. My companions and I used the same extension cord for a long time with the same load. Then, for compactness, they wound a plastic reel from under the cable. Hacked - blazed along with the coil, barely put out. Once I bought an industrial extension cord just 5 m long, I read the instructions for nothing. And it says there. Do not rewind when using, do not rewind !!!

The performance is great, but ergonomics suffer a bit. I had a diplomat without a handle; I screwed the door onto him with screws. And then I realized why diplomats have rotary handles. For an irrevocable wear is quite uncomfortable.
