In a previous article, the manufacture and assembly of a tank was considered. KV-1. In this article, we will consider how to make the Sturmgeshütz III self-propelled artillery mount.
First, a little history. Self-propelled guns self-propelled artillery Sturmgeschütz III (StuG III; Sturmgeshütz III, Shtug III) - the most massive German armored vehicles of the Second World War. Produced from 1940 to 1945 based on the tank PzKpfw III. Gun caliber 75 mm. Weight 23.4 tons. Crew 4 people. In Soviet literature it was designated as "Art-Sturm". Trophy armored vehicles were also used in the Soviet army. After the alteration from the German Shtug III and PzKpfw III, the Soviet SU-76I was obtained.
Tools and materials:
-Laser cutter;
-Plywood;
-Glue;
-Double-sided tape;
-Cable tie;
- Bolts 3 mm * 30 mm with two nuts - 10 pcs.;
-Bolts 3 mm 20 mm with two nuts -18 pcs.;
-Bolts 3 mm * 10 mm with nuts-4 pcs.;
Step One: Design and Cutting
Develops a self-propelled gun project. At a scale of 1:18, the self-propelled guns are 27.5 cm long, 16 cm wide and 11 cm high. Unlike the KV-1, it does not have enough space to accommodate the engine. After designing, the CNC cuts out the parts.

Step two: gun and periscope
Collects a gun. Places joints of parts with glue.
Collects the periscope.
Step Two: Case
Assembles the body.
Sets a gun and armor plates. The tower is attached to the housing with bolts and cable ties.
Adds hatches, staples, pipes.
Sets the sidewalls.
Step Three: Track Track Fixed
The author has developed two versions of the tracked track mobile and non-mobile.
First, consider the motionless. The author made such a caterpillar from seven cable ties glued together. The wheels are also glued and the whole structure is bolted to the self-propelled guns. The assembly of such a track is much easier to move.
Step Four: Movable Track
It’s more difficult to assemble a moving caterpillar, but the ability to move is worth it.
First you need to assemble the chassis.
Then the caterpillar gathers. The caterpillar has 33 tracks.
It remains to fix the tool.
And the self-propelled artillery mount is ready.
