Do-it-yourself individual cooling bag. First aid. Soldering film

I want to share an interesting technology, as simple as chintz underpants.

To begin with, I was preparing for the summer and slowly stocked up my first-aid kit. Everyone knows and understands that the main danger that can await a tourist in the forest is injuries.

Therefore, the emphasis in the first-aid kit should be made on the appropriate means of providing the first honey. help. Of course, there is a number of compulsory medicines, but this is a separate topic, if anyone is interested, I’ll write a post about what should be in the first-aid kit and why. So, with wounds, burns, in principle, everything is clear, dressings, a good antiseptic, healing ointment. But! There are still bruises, sprains, dislocations ... Those who were trained on the first honey. help (girls, as a rule, all go to school, when the guys have lessons in pre-war training) know that in such cases, providing the first honey. help is the application of a cold compress and a retaining bandage. Greater, in principle, no matter how you do it. And it would seem that everything is fine ... but only where in the middle of the forest at +35 you will find a cold compress? So howoo. There is such a wonderful thing, it is called an individual cooling package. This is a small sealed bag, inside of which there is a capsule with water and special granules.

When a packet is hit, the capsule bursts, mixes with granules and a reaction occurs that absorbs a large amount of heat. Therefore, the package is very much cooled, the temperature is not measured, but really strong, subjectively degrees up to 4. This is an excellent tool, which, for me, should be found not only in every first-aid kit, but also in home, and even just in the backpack / bag with which you walk. Why? In a campaign it is clear injuries as well as sun or heat stroke. At home - the same thing, hit with a hammer on the finger, forehead on the shelf, firstly there is not always ice, secondly - putting a container with ice is not very convenient, in my opinion. In addition, the package can be wrapped around the finger. With themselves - all men know that if they give it to the eye, then if you immediately attach a cold “flashlight” it will be much less, or not at all. So. It would seem, yes, a good thing! I’ll go buy it! But it wasn’t here ...I ran around the city with a dozen pharmacies, and only found one! And then the order, and then, did not bring! Ok, our internet is everything. I found that they cost from 7 to 10 UAH, not much in principle, but taking into account delivery of 40 UAH, 4-5 packages will cost as much as 8-10, it’s not practical at all. In addition, they complain that, because of the delivery, the packages come already “triggered”, that is, they threw it somewhere, the capsules burst, you understand. I thought, thought, and decided, so we will do it ourselves)))

And so, what is the point. We need to solder the "capsule" with water, and the whole package, which will contain the capsule and the "magic secret mixture", gee gee) In fact, the secret magic mixture is ordinary ammonium nitrate. And I assure you, what is sold in these packages is the same thing, saltpeter and water. Even when I was a teenager suffering from all kinds of pyrotechnics, I noticed this effect, the water in which you dissolve ammonium nitrate, so that you make a flue, it becomes terribly cold, icy.

From the tool we need:

  • Soldering iron with a conical tip, rounded at the end, with a power of 40 watts (you can experiment with others)
  • The substrate on which we will solder (I have a piece of fiberboard that remained after manufacturing Carcassonne and a sheet of paper on top)
  • Metal or wooden ruler (plastic melts, I think you understand)
  • And actually the film itself.

As a material for capsules, small (slightly larger than a matchbox) transparent bags with a latch (zip lock) are great, they are remarkably soldered, and you have to solder only on one side.

We do this: we collect about 2/3 of the water, close the bag.

We put the unfilled part of the bag on any hill so that water does not fall into the place of soldering, we apply a ruler and draw a soldering iron tip.

Here you need to practice. First, just practice on pieces of some kind of film, from packages, from anything.

Important. Make sure that the capsules are sealed hermetically by slightly pressing on the sealed capsule, water should not oozes from where. Soldered capsules, soldered packages. Here the same thing, only we are forming all sides of the film. Best suited for this film sold on the market "sleeves." This film is very good to melt and solder.

First we solder 3 sides, we get an open package. One moment - under the ruler should be the part that will be part of the package, and not vice versa. Then the adhesion will be even and tight. The speed and angle at which you need to conduct a soldering iron is also selected empirically, it is not difficult, I spent 10 minutes on it, although I did it the first time. Next, put a capsule into it.

And pour saltpeter.

I did not measure and did not consider the ratios, I did it by experience, the volume of nitrate in the volume should be about 2 times more than water. For greater beauty, add a label.

Now repeat the procedure as with a capsule of water. It is important to squeeze out excess air from the bag, otherwise not only the capsule will burst upon impact, but also the bag, like a pack of chips.

In principle, everything) It took me half a night after work to master the technology and manufacture.

These packages are now a must-have item in my travel kit.

Although to be honest, they were used for their intended purpose only a couple of times, which, in principle, is good. More often these packages are used as a demonstration for amazed minds) By the way, this is not the first time I make them. The very first ones looked something like this:

Unfortunately, I do not have a pyrometer to measure temperature. But so that no one would have doubts about working capacity, he shot such a video here.

In general, the topic of film adhesion has very broad prospects in everyday life. You can solder some kind of spare parts so as not to lose, products on a hike, for example, dry and pack in portion packets for soup, porridge, etc., everything is limited only by your imagination. Here is an example of an envelope for instructions for my PT-1 Primus.

And convenient packaging for board game chips.

That's all, good luck to everyone in your work!

Oh yes. In case someone repeats and is too lazy to draw a label.

And the tramp helped ...

Well, this is something from the field of traditional medicine, the first time I hear)

Yes, I also came across this. I'll try it sometime.
A very long time ago I made a powerful soldering iron cut in a sting, inserted a wheel from a lighter. I had to seal a lot of packages!
all men know that if given in the eye - then if you immediately attach a cold "flashlight" it will be much less, or not at all.
- an excellent tool, it is to rub the place of impact in the eye with garlic (slightly, without burning the skin) and there will be no bruise or there will be less. So you can put garlic in your medicine cabinet -)))black_eye
