Surely many of you like different fixturesthat have a secret way of opening.
In this article, Alexey, the author of the YouTube channel Aleksey Leontev Workshop, will tell you how he made a small box with a secret mechanism.

Manufacturing process.
So, the author found trimmed boards of stained oak, walnut and ash. They will serve as the main materials for this homemade product.
The boards lay idle for a long time, and the master had to process them. The first step was to align the two surfaces on the board of ash and walnut.
The master dissolves the ashenic boards in thickness into two thinner ones, the side walls, the bottom, and the casket cover will be made of them.
Then the wood material is further processed on a thicknesser.
Now, from two hazel planks, the master glues the shield, and fixes it in clamps.
The boards for the side walls were too long, and the author cut them into blanks of the same length.
He also needed to fit the workpiece in width, and at the same time align the edges.
On one of the edges of the boards, a groove for the bottom is cut for several passes of the circular saw.
The ends of the blanks are cut on a miter saw at an angle of 45 degrees.
Having prepared a square bottom, and an element of the top cover, the master proceeds to gluing the case. For easier fixing all the walls and the bottom together, he used a masking tape. He glued all the walls to it, greased the joints with glue, inserted the bottom, and pulled off a masking tape.
The author fixes the resulting box with clamps using special plastic corners.
For the decorative part of the walnut cover, the author prepared a small template, and glued it to the workpiece using double-sided tape. The workpiece is then cut on a band saw, however, the author leaves a small supply of material for further processing.
He processes the internal curves with the help of a home-made drum grinding nozzle fixed in the chuck of a drilling machine.
The edges are cut on the miter saw.
All faces on the top of the workpiece are milled with a radius cutter with a thrust bearing.
The box stuck together, and the author cuts off part of it, forming the sides for the lid.
A thin plate of ash is inserted inside the lid, and markings from a decorative element are applied on it.
In this plate, you also need to cut a small spring along the fibers, it will be part of the locking mechanism.
Also cut on the band saw are stained oak tabs for the lid.
Here is the design of the pads should work. The author also needs to process the upper parts of the oak tabs on the mill.
On the upper part of the lid, only at the corners, glue is applied, and a walnut pad is glued.
After the glue dries, you need to glue the bottom of the cover with a spring. Here you need to be careful, and prevent glue from getting on it.
After some time, three liners can be glued.
The last insert will play the function of the opening button, here you also need to be careful with glue. When you click on the tab, the plate will bend down.
Two small plates sticking slightly above the top edge are glued from the inside of the front of the box. They will help to avoid backlash of a cover.
Such an element is attached to the front of the plate, it will depress the latch.
A false button made of bog oak is also glued to the lid, and legs to the bottom. The lid is screwed to the base of the box with furniture hinges.
Near the squeezing mechanism, a groove for the latch tooth is made. The latch itself is mounted between the plates in the front of the box.
All the product can only be soaked with linseed oil, and waxed.
And so the finished box closes and opens. Anyone who does not know this will try to open it by clicking on the false button.
As a result, Alexey got such a beautiful box of precious wood. In the next few photos, the mechanism of a simple latch is better visible.
I thank Alexey for the interesting model caskets with a secret lock!
