Many are very interested in how to make a beautiful inscription on metal in home conditions on their own. After all, it looks very beautiful and spectacular if you decide to give your friends or relatives a valuable personalized gift with wishes that will never be erased and will not fade in the sun. The inscription will always remind the person of you, forcing you to remember the most beautiful moments spent together.
Let's watch the video, and then move on to the process:
We will need:
- photovarnish for printed circuit boards Positiv 20;
- product for leveling;
- glass;
- alkali NaOH;
- acid or ferric chloride; ultraviolet lamp;
- stone for etching;
- capacity for solutions;
- acetone, to remove the varnish after etching.
A stencil for engraving is prepared in advance.
A stencil can be made using the program Adobe Photoshop. Just do not forget that after making the right text or picture in Photoshop, you need to flip it horizontally so that the text is read in the right way on the product. You can also use the QuarkXPress program, but also do not forget to mirror the image you created.
Printing a stencil is best done with a laser printer. Only plain paper is not suitable for this, you need to use a special film. If the toner is not dark enough, then you can take two identical stencils and glue them together gently.
Engraving is done using photographic varnish for printed circuit boards. You can purchase it on almost any radio market.
The principle of operation is as follows.
On the product where it is necessary to make an engraving, a thin layer of photographic varnish is applied, which must first be shaken. Do not forget to lay a newspaper on your desktop so as not to stain it. After application, it is given some time to dry well.
Then, a stencil is applied to the product, with the desired text or engraving pattern. First turn off the bright light, otherwise there will be a flare. Then it is pressed by glass or a thin film, which can also be fixed on the metal with the help of small magnets, they should not overlap the inscription.
The assembled design is illuminated by an ultraviolet lamp. Do not forget to wear special safety glasses so as not to harm your eyes. The exposure time should be 5 to 10 minutes.
Stencils are removed and the metal is washed with a solution of alkali NaOH of the correct concentration or a means for cleaning sewers, observing safety precautions.
The illuminated varnish is washed off to the metal, after which you can start etching with acid or ferric chloride, depending on the metal from which the product is made.
