All hinged shelves can be conditionally classified depending on the materials from which they are made, shape, variety of design solutions, as well as mounting methods.
Materials
At the present stage, the following materials are used for the production of hinged shelves: particleboard, MDF, high-quality plastic, metal, tempered glass, solid wood. Many models are made in combination of several materials (chipboard shelves with glass facades, etc.)
The form
Mounted shelf can have almost any shape. These are traditional rectangular shelves, as well as decorative patterns in the form of rhombuses, squares, ovals, circles.
Design features and solutions
Hinged shelves can be open and closed (with wings). Some models are used not only to store items, but also serve as mirrors. In addition, from two or more shelves you can make whole shelf modules. Particularly popular are the so-called puzzle shelves: triangular shelves from which you can assemble any design.
Mounting Methods
Depending on the mounting method, several types of shelves are distinguished. So, hinged shelf with hidden fastening, it is mounted on special metal pins and fixed with bolts. This creates the illusion that the shelf seems to be glued to the wall.
Console models are mounted in a rather original way: shelves are installed on special holders (consoles), which can be located at the bottom of the shelf or from its ends. At the same time, the console is not only a fixing mechanism, but also a decorative element, with which you can complement the overall style of the interior.
Vertical shelves have several surfaces and are placed one on one (the design resembles steps). Such shelf for documents or accessories can be angular or linear.
Especially spectacular look asymmetric shelves, which are fastened by protruding beyond the support surfaces: they are usually used for flower pots.
Another type of hinged shelves are floor models, which are movable surfaces on casters. Such furniture can be used to place various decorative elements.
