Backlit rosin smoke

Backlit rosin smoke

The idea of making a hood when soldering always visited me when I sat down at the table, picked up a soldering iron and soldered another circuit. Each time I kept repeating to myself, it’s necessary to make myself adapt so that harmful smoke does not bother me. One fine day, my patience was over, I quit soldering the circuit and set about implementing my idea. It is not difficult to do it, it is harder to find the necessary components. I had everything, and I made a hood for half a day, taking into account lunch breaks and other household trifles.

Materials:
12V fan (size and voltage may vary depending on your preferences and availability).
Textolite / plexiglass / getinaks / plastics and etc. what is there.
Switches 2 pcs.
Connecting wires.
Flexible iron hose (I don’t know what to call it right).
4 white LEDs with a power of 0.5-1 watts. (it is possible without them, it will work :))
Chrome bar.
M6 bolt, a piece of M6 thread and a couple of screws.
Plastic corner 4pcs.
Foil tape.

Instruments:
Glue gun.
Soldering iron with rosin and tin :)
Pliers, screwdrivers, knife, nippers (shorter set of a real gentleman).

I applauded at one time with such things!

Such a rack is used in the store. A hand scanner is inserted into the upper holder. The seller-cashier removes the scanner and passes on the barcode of the goods, thereby finding out the price. Where did you get it, don’t ask :)
On the reverse side is a threaded iron pad.

Iron hose :) can be bent in different directions.

On the basis of such a holder, I decided to make a hood.
This holder can be used in different ways. For example, I put the phone in the cut-out slots and record videos. And my friend (I gave him one such thing) uses it as a stand for headphones.
My headphones.

I take second-hand switches

Plastic and corner. I already glued the cut square walls :)

Plastic is needed for the side walls of the hood.
LEDs used such.

To the LEDs you need to choose a current-limiting resistor. The fact is that if glued with ordinary pistol glue, then it will melt from heating the LED. I don’t remember what value I set, like 5 or 6 Ohms. The larger the denomination, the worse it shines and vice versa. 4 LEDs are connected in series.
The fan can be taken from a broken computer power supply.

Foil tape.

And such plastic, or not quite plastic, is at a loss to say the exact name. Typically, such material is glued with advertising stickers. He came in handy on the bottom of the base of the rack.

We cut in two switches.

From obscure plastic :) I make the bottom of the stand.

A sticker is glued on the plastic, only part of the neck of the bottle of vodka is visible :)
To attach the fan to the iron hose :) I bend the chrome bar to the desired size.

Simple and reliable mount.
Inside the “exhaust box”, I paste over with foil tape.

I stick the LEDs with a gun.

Checking the performance of my backlight.

I finally clamp everything, solder, glue and assemble the entire simple structure. I feed the 12V hood from the battery. It is possible from the network, you only need a 12V power supply.

I connected two iron hoses with a piece of thread. The height is acceptable, it will not interfere.
In height, the hood turned out to be about 35cm.

Anti-theft site :)

In the evening I recorded a small video of the performance of my homegrown cooker hood. If you want, you can see :)
Smoke is weakly visible, but with more it can be seen that everything works !!!

Conclusion: it turned out a good thing, it draws smoke perfectly when soldering, if you don’t solder, then you can use it just like a small table lamp, for example, see the resistor rating or the chip number. I usually do not have enough room lamp in the evening. A small base is both a minus and a plus. The disadvantage is that it is not very large, and the whole structure sways slightly when touched, and the plus is that the small size allows you to conveniently decompose all your radio part and solder under the hood. The extraction height is more than enough to place a soldering iron, etc. A powerful fan draws rosin smoke even at the lowest point. Recently, with a drill I cut getinax roofing felts, textolite roofing felts, I always confuse the name of these two materials, such a dark brown one. So when cutting, he gives such a stink that the whole apartment is saturated with this muck, even with the window open. I cut my hood, and cut under it. You know, it’s a completely different matter, the hood pulls out a pungent smell and throws it out through the window to the street. Of course, the smell remained a little in the room, but it took much less time to completely ventilate the room than without a hood. In general, I was satisfied. Having spent the evening you can make yourself a useful thing, especially it will be relevant to ham radio !!!!

All success in creative work !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

A good idea yes . I have about 50cm to the window. Somewhere I saw a plastic sleeve of a suitable size, just what you need. And easy, and can be folded at any time. One head it's good, but two better drinks Thanks!!!!
