Steel roofing requires primarily periodic inspection from the inside. This is best done in the rain - the stronger, the better. Mark the places of leaks with chalk, and when the weather comes, start repairing. You need to do this together: one - on the roof cottages, the second - in the attic with a stick. With it, he must tap on the places of leaks, and the partner on the roof of the dacha will mark them.
When leaking through the seam, it should be sealed. You can smear it with putty meerkade or made from chalk powder and drying oil. On top, coat the seam with thick-grated oil paint.
If there are punched holes in the roof, you should first straighten their edges, oil the roof around the hole with oil paint, and then put a patch of cotton cloth so that it fits onto the prepared place without wrinkles. After drying, coat the patch with oil paint, especially carefully along the edges. Remember this place so that in winter when cleaning the roof of the cottage, do not cut the patch.
In general, it is advisable to clean the roof with a wooden shovel with a blunted end with a thickness of at least 5-8 mm.
If you find holes pierced by rust, do not brush it off with a steel brush. This will only increase the holes. It is best, of course, to replace these sheets. If this is not possible, then directly on the rust, paint the roof with minium 10-15 cm around the damaged area and immediately lay on it a dense cloth such as burlap. Pre-soak the fabric in the paint and, without squeezing, cover the defective place with it so that the edges of the fabric come into intact areas of the roof. After drying, paint the patch again. The thicker the paint, the more reliable the patch.
You can stick a special “Gerlen” tape in place of leaks (it is produced with rolls 200 mm wide and 3-5 mm thick). But it’s better to paint it on top. In addition, various mastics are used to seal the roof.
Regardless of what you repair your roof of the dacha roof, its surface before this must be cleaned of dust. All work on repairing the roof of the cottage should be done in dry, clear weather.
Galvanized roofing is recommended to be painted 10 years after installation.Do not miss the moment when a coating of rust appears on the side of the attic. It is necessary to cover it with a steel brush and paint the roof of the cottage with oil paint.
