Wooden handles are good when they are. And when there is a file, a chisel, a knife and even a screwdriver, but there is no time to find the right piece of wood and go shopping. And the tool itself is used from time to time, then you can make a “quick” plastic handle, which is usually always in the kitchen. This is a lot of single containers, disposable tableware and all kinds of packaging. In a word, what we buy along the way and throw away.
For these purposes, I use disposable containers from salads. They consist of polypropylene and polystyrene (5 and 6 in a triangle). You can also use polystyrene - this is a regular polystyrene from substrates or packaging. Only it is easier to melt with a solvent than melt with a hairdryer.
This time I had files donated by my grandfather. And by all appearances, for the whole time of their life he used them without handles, although perhaps they were once on them.
I do not have a large lathe and even a bunch of pine bars, but without a special iron ring all this work is in vain. The pen will not hold, and if you score harder, it will crack. I even know in which store the ready-made handles for such a tool (wooden) are not expensively sold, but going only after them will take longer.

By the way, I made the first pen out of PET plastic - an ordinary bottle and even without any tools. He melted at the stake on the street in the evening, and a handle was needed for a kitchen knife for cutting meat. The "native" plastic he broke because it was not reliable. Immediately I increased the hilt with the help of screwing the bar and piled a handy hilt that still serves and I cut meat only with this knife, as others simply can not withstand such loads (sometimes I had to hit the knife with a hammer to cut the bones)
The whole process was filmed on video. Last time I took photographs for a long time and cut the frames from the video, but never received a single comment. Therefore, now I’m too lazy to do it all the more since it’s homemade.
