In this article, the Master will tell us how to literally make a mallet in an hour.
To make such a tool, the master used the following
Tools and materials:
-Bar 100 * 100 mm;
- Dowel 28 mm in diameter;
-Bung;
-Linseed oil;
- Joiner's glue;
-A circular saw;
Grinding machine;
-Drilling machine;
- Clamps;
Step One: Cropping
Cut the bar material to length. It can be anything from 10 to 30 cm, depending on how big and heavy the hammer you want. The one you see in the photographs has a length of 18 cm and a handle length of 25 cm.
Then you can leave a square shape or make an octagon. If you decide to give an octagonal shape, then you need to cut the corners at 45 degrees without forgetting to leave one of the sides wide enough to install the handle.
Step Two: Hole and Grinding
The dowel diameter is 28 mm, the master drills a hole of the same diameter. The hole should be deaf, but as deep as possible. Then polishes the workpiece.
Step Three: Install the handle
At the edge of the handle makes longitudinal cuts. Apply glue to the hole. Sets the handle. If the handle does not enter the hole, you can lightly sand it with sandpaper.
Step Four: Pads
From the ends of the mallet, the master glues cork pads.
Now it remains to cover the mallet with linseed oil and you're done.
