Hello everyone
Today we have hot weather all day - 40 degrees in the shade, but I still can’t rest on the couch, I’d better spend my free time by the horn.
And so I begin to make a knife, sometimes not only beautiful ones are created.
We will need a tool
- Bulgarian
- Drill
- File
- Horn
- Hammer
- Ribbon Grinder
- Suitable piece of metal
- Free time
Getting started, here is my blank
I heat the workpiece and put it to cool. Then I glow again and proceed to forging the thickness and tip
Kuyu, forming a knife thickness of 3 mm
I do not form the shank, then I just cut it out, cutting off everything that is unnecessary. When I cut it, I pour it with cold water, when cutting, I do not press on my ear so as not to heat the metal
After trimming, I grind it to wet on the grinder, periodically changing the tape to a smaller one. Forced water cooling on the grinder, well, I'll tell you later
I deduce preliminary descents from the right
I don’t particularly bother with the slopes, later the slopes will be polished and they will not be visible. View of the knife on the left
well here is the next step Quenching
- I heat the knife until it ceases to adhere to the magnet and hold it for another 1 minute per mm of thickness of the knife. A temperature of about 850 degrees, unfortunately, has nothing to measure.
- I dip in heated oil to 50 ° C and leave in oil for half an hour and after
- I lay in a container with quartz sand until completely cooled
- I check for a scratch glass scratches the file barely takes and then it is very small and this means
All quenching completed
Vacation
- I put the knife in a heated oven to 300 ° C for 2 hours
After I turn off the oven, let it cool, leave everything ready
This is a view after quenching and tempering.
I grind the surface of the knife periodically changing the grain of paper to a smaller one, after I grind the goy paste
Well here I proceed to the pen. I drill a hole in the burl with an epoxy and hammer the knife. Existing gaps, namaz glue clog chips.
I form the handle on the grinder, after going through a small emery cloth. Now, in a water bath, I drown natural wax and load the handle into the wax so I cook for 3 hours, so I impregnate the handle with wax, it turns out like stable wood to the touch, like plastic. Here is the view after the impregnation, even I did not like such an impregnation I like more natural pens
Well, that's all the knife is ready, not quite neatly, but I tried. I hope in the future, when there will be more experience and equipment - the knives will be beautiful, I will be very glad if one of our guests doesn’t ....
Thank you all for visiting me.
Until new Homemade
