Did you ever want to catch small birds?
In this article, the author of the Imaginative Guy YouTube channel will tell you how to make three options for simple traps from the available materials.
These homemade products are very simple to manufacture, and even a schoolboy will cope with them. Also, special tools are not required.
Of course, the author will release all the birds caught.
Materials
- Plastic bottles
- steel wire
- Plastic clamps
- wooden plank
- Fan grille
- Twine, fishing line
- Second glue
- Screws, nuts, nails.
Instruments, used by the author.
— Soldering iron
— Glue gun
- Nippers, screwdriver, hacksaw
- Pliers, knife, marker.
Manufacturing process.
So, for the first trap you will need a plastic bottle and wire. The author took the wire trempel, aligned it, and bent the wire in the shape of the letter P.
Then, closer to the edge, two loops for the fixing screws are made.
On the reverse side, having tried the frame on the bottle, the edges of the wire are bent near the bottom. Excesses are cut off with wire cutters.
Two holes are melted in the bottle with a soldering iron, and the frame is screwed to it.
Around the wire, several holes for clamps are made at the bottom of the bottle.
Now the frame can be temporarily unscrewed, and cut off the bottom with a knife. It turns out a kind of door.
The bottom is attached to the frame with plastic clamps, their excess is cut off. You can use a second glue, or fix with hot glue. Due to the fact that such a bottom is soft enough, the bird should not be injured. Only the frame should not be too heavy. You can also slightly melt the sharp edges of the bottom and body.
Having screwed the frame into place, the author makes a cut near the neck to half the depth. There will be the bait, at the same time and fixing the trap in the open position.
For stability, the master glued a small leg to the bottom of the trap.
It remains to insert the bait between the frame and the neck, for example, a corn stick, or a nut kernel.
This design will be able to catch one bird, the probability of slamming two at once is very low, you can use a larger bottle. If you feed tits, then in a few days you can gradually catch all the visitors, and carefully mark them with a marker. So you will recognize your own, and you can calculate their number. Instead of a marker, you can use a clerical white corrector. It is clearly visible on the black head of tits.
The next option is already more serious. Here you will need a grill from the fan. To one edge of it you need to attach a pair of nails at a distance of 7-10 cm. This can be done with clamps or wire.
So two small legs will be formed, which will allow you to stably install the grille at an angle.
A twine is tied between nails, and a clove is attached to its second end. The rope must be fixed near the head of the nail.
Bait made from corn sticks, nuts, or other goodies is tied to the fishing line, and the second edge to the center of the twine.
Now, to obtain a sensitive support, two nails are mounted on top of each other, and props up the edge of the grill.
As you can see, everything is quite simple, and several birds can already be caught at once.
In my school years, I kept budgerigars at home. These cute birds love to fly around the room, and they need several hours a day. However, it happens that it is quite difficult to drive them back into the cage, and they had to be caught for a rather long time. The next and last homemade trap is just for them.
The author acquired a regular cage for parrots, with a slight nuance. The door in this cage closes vertically.
Opposite the door, he installed a feeding trough, and measured a stick from its edge so long that it reached the top of the door in the open position. Also cut off a small perch.
Now both parts are glued together with second glue in the likeness of a mop.
Such a spacer is very sensitive, and the bird will have to sit on it to get food.
Everything is ready, and this trap was able to immediately catch two sparrows. Now with a domestic parrot it will be easier, except that before the walk you will need to remove food, and at the end of it - pour it again.
All the birds, as promised, were released.
I thank the author for the ideas of simple but quite working bird traps!
Winter has just begun, and you need to feed tits. And now you can also tag all visitors. On cold winter days, their number can reach hundreds or more. Yes, you just have to do it quickly, and after contact with the birds, you must definitely wash your hands with laundry soap!
And one more thing that should be avoided when feeding tits. No need to sprinkle seeds on them, or hang lard on glazed loggias. They quickly lose their orientation, and can be seriously injured on the glass, not finding a way out.
If you have interesting homemade products, share them on this site. Here you will get a real reward, not a “bunch of green stuff" at the entertainment forum.
All good mood, good luck, and interesting ideas!
