Surely many of you have different boards or wooden trays in your kitchen, and they know how convenient they are.
In this article, the author of the YouTube channel Vladimir Natynchik will tell you how to make a round tray of scraps of boards without using a lathe.
Materials
- Trimming boards from acacia oak and mahogany
- PVA glue
- Oil wax
- Sandpaper.
Instruments, used by the author.
— Clamps
— Manual frezer
— Radius Mill with Thrust Bearing
— Electric jigsaw
— Orbital sander
- Ruler, square, pencil.
Manufacturing process.
So, Vladimir prepared the wood, and proceeded to gluing the shield from the boards. On workpieces, only one side is lubricated with glue.
Next, the shield is pulled together with clamps, and left to dry.
On the finished shield, the master finds the center, and with the help of a milling cutter with a compass nozzle cuts the workpiece in a circle.
Departure of the cutter was not enough, and the author had to cut with a conventional electric jigsaw.
Both surfaces of the board, and its edges are ground first by hand, and then by an orbital sander, gradually increasing the grit. He will use grinding discs of the 40th, 80th, 180th and 240th grit.
After polishing, Vladimir sets a radius cutter with a thrust bearing on the mill and processes the upper edge of the workpiece.
He also puts his signature brand in a hot way.
All that remains is the final stage of processing all surfaces with oil-wax. After rubbing, he heats the board with a hairdryer, and repeats this several times.
You can find the author’s recipe (from the same master) for making such an impregnation in this article. This treatment consists of rosehip oil and natural beeswax. It is absolutely odorless, and is applicable to any wooden products in contact with food. Instead, you can use linseed oil, but it has a slight unpleasant odor.
That's all done, you can set the table, and use such a tray for cutting pizza, or other dishes. It is also convenient in that, unlike square-shaped boards, it can be stored in a plate dryer.
I thank Vladimir for the simple and affordable technique for making round wooden boards and trays!
