Easy access drill shelf

Hello dear the inhabitants of our site and site visitors.
In this article I want to tell you how to independently make a very convenient, in my opinion, shelf for storing drills, as well as clearly demonstrate its creation using my own example. Since I often do something from wood, in the process of these works one of the most popular tools is, of course, a drill! In the manufacture of some things, drills of various sizes and diameters are needed. So, so that they were always at my fingertips, I decided to make a special shelf in my workshop for storage and have convenient access to them. Those. saw the right thing, went up and calmly took it.

For the manufacture of this shelf, I used tools such as:
Electric jigsaw
screwdriver
-drill,
grinding machine
-gas-burner
and of course the drill.

The basis for the shelf was a 40x10 mm rail. After sawing off the pieces I needed in size, I outlined places for holes in them. In total I needed 7 transverse rails and two longitudinal, for the sidewalls. In the marked places, with the help of a pen drill in three rails I make through holes. In the remaining three, the holes are no longer through, but about 2/3 of the thickness of the bar. In my case, it is about 6-7 mm. Looking ahead, I will say that plastic tubes will be inserted into these holes.

Further, these details will need to be installed on the longitudinal strips, which act as the lateral supporting walls of the entire shelf. According to my idea, the trims with holes should be at an angle relative to the side walls. This will reduce the size of the shelf itself, as there will be no need to make a large distance between the strips to get out and insert the drill. They will not rest against a higher level. Therefore, on the sidewalls, I mark out how the transverse rails will be located. For this I use a square. I make an angle of 45 degrees. From the top of this corner I spend another, but in the opposite direction. Then I make the markings for the slats themselves. To drill holes for self-tapping screws so that they are on the same level, I apply parts to each other and tightly fix them with clamps. I drill holes in the mounting points of the cross members. With holes it is much more convenient to carry out the assembly process. And the strips do not crack when they twist the screws in them, especially the end ones. I'm starting to collect the details.

To ensure that the shelf has a finished look, useful space does not disappear, and for greater strength, I cut off another bar that will be attached at the very bottom. I also make through holes in it. From plywood I cut a bar in which I make cuts from two sides. This part with which the shelf will be attached to the surface of the wall.

I burn all surfaces with a gas burner. With this decor, the shelf will look much more interesting. In those places where the firing is too strong, I clean off the excess.

I insert tubes from the coils of thermal paper into all the holes on the six upper slats for printing receipts. You can insert any tubes that will play the role of tubes, but because I was able to recruit enough of them at work, then I use them.

I select those drills that I use most often and insert them into the tubes.
Now there is no need for all these boxes, magnets, where previously I had drills lying and hanging.

The only thing I want to add for those who want to repeat and make the same shelf - do not use a feather drill for holes in the lower, planks, if you have the same thickness as mine. This is due to the fact that the hole is still through. Although it is small, but it is precisely in it that thin drills of small diameter will fall through and fall out. I had to close them up.
In the end, I am satisfied with the resulting product. All the drills that I often use are always at my fingertips. They are easy to take and work, just as easy to put back.

On this I say goodbye to you. I hope you come in handy my idea for storing drills, taps, bits and everything else.

Korolev,
I left the most popular ones for my needs, but there’s just enough shelf for them. The rest was removed in the "drawer of unused tools" smile
It is not often necessary to work with drills, but a shelf is not enough for my supplies! yes
