Sky lanterns that came to us from the Middle Kingdom are called “Hum Loi” or “Hum Fairies” in their homeland. Such lanterns are very popular not only in Asian countries, but also throughout the world. Chinese sky lanterns are used in many celebrations, flash mobs, and in Thailand there is even a separate holiday during which residents and guests massively launch lanterns into the sky. Recently, sky lanterns have become popular in our country, they can be purchased in different stores, but you can do it yourself, which we will try right now.
So, before you start, let's watch the flashlight video:
There are many ways to make sky lanterns, but the simplest of them allows you to do this without much effort and expense.
We will need:
- Regular trash bags on 30 l. (taking larger bags is not recommended, since they are usually made of thicker polyethylene);
- Stationery tape;
- Wire diameter 0.5 mm;
- And also a dry fuel tablet.
Materials are collected. You can begin the process of making a flashlight. The ball that we will launch into the sky is made of several packages. It is advisable to use two or three bags, depending on the air temperature. In winter, for example, you can be content with one package, on a summer evening a ball of two will be launched, and during the day in hot weather - of three. First of all, we cut the packets along the solder line and insert one of them into the other. The resulting seam with adhesive tape.
Next, you need to take care of the holder for our burner, which we will make of wire. To do this, we need two pieces of aluminum wire 40 cm long, which need to be twisted around the candle.
The bags will be mounted on the holder, so at the ends you need to make special clips.
Next, the package is divided into four corners, each of which is wound on a separate clip.
Homemade sky lantern is ready.
It remains only to take dry fuel, which we will use as fuel. One tablet needs to be broken into four equal parts.In some cases, the flashlight may not immediately fly up. The reason for this may be the severity of the fuel. In such cases, you should wait a bit until part of the fuel burns out.
Attention!!! Sky lanterns are flammable. Run them in an open area, where there are no nearby trees and buildings. Make sure that there is no wind during the start-up, as in windy weather the bag can easily melt or burn.
