The second life of the TV

A neighbor, knowing my "Plyushkinskaya" nature, gave me a black-and-white-dead TV "Gull". And what people just do not bring me with the hope of trying to still extract something useful from the old (or broken) things! And if I endure the death sentence of the product, then they give it to me for spare parts or carry it to a landfill. I prepared the presented “Seagull”, threw away the unnecessary, and sorted the spare parts “on the shelves” in my storage. I’ve grabbed a flat can from the trash earlier "Atlantic herring." I really liked the picture on the cover. It will come in handy, maybe! My wife nevertheless spotted my trophy and gave me another flyback. I withstood the attack by putting cotton “ear plugs” in my ears and lustfully looked at the polished box of the TV. Large, shiny, black control panel sparkles with nickel-plated details. Well, how to throw away such beauty! And I got to work. Having cleaned the inner surface of the box from various smudges of glue, planks, fastening glands, I putty it and pasted it with washable wallpaper with a “oak look” pattern (Fig. 4). I made a shelf out of thick plywood. Made of aluminum corner hinges for hanging the drawer on the wall. I cut out the back wall from fiberboard, pasted it with the same wallpaper. The control panel left, having an idea "for later".

I laid a sheet of cardboard on the opening for the tube and, drawing a pencil around the perimeter of the hole, I got a template. According to the pattern, a door detail was cut out of Finnish waterproof plywood. By the way, the color and finish of Finnish plywood were in harmony with the color and finish of my box, so no additional processing of the lid was required, except for the grinding and painting of the end surfaces. After fitting the door, I installed it on the front wall using hinges made from stainless steel scraps (I polished the hinges, of course). He made a handle from a piece of nickel-plated tube from the old pendant of a chandelier lying around in my warehouse (I fixed the handle in plexiglass brackets using M4 screws).

Since the opening for the kinescope is edged with elastic profile rubber, which gives a kind of charm to the hole, the door, spring, slightly departed from the opening.
I had to make a handle with a latch. For the handle I used a beautiful cork from a cologne, in which an MB bolt was glued with an epoxy.

The result was a nice, original kitchen cabinet, a cupboard, which I hung on the wall in the kitchen. His wife instantly filled him with things that until now were nowhere to be found. It is clear that she was very pleased with the locker and even offered to use our “Photon” for this purpose, which clearly begs for the role of such a locker, surpassing both quality and dimensions The Seagull.

And yet, looking at a new piece of furniture, I did not feel complete satisfaction. The door was empty and dull, and somehow it needed to be revived. Then I remembered about a can of herring. Separated the lid and carefully cut in a circle. And as it would be good for my idea, if it had been opened from the bottom (henceforth it must be taken into account!). In the meantime, imperceptibly soldering at several points, I grabbed the lid to the bottom. It turned out also not bad. Especially to the place was the kitchen motif of the pattern on the lid. Then he turned our open can into a covered one, for which he cut out a tin circle (from a larger can) and gently soldered it to the burrs remaining after opening the can on its “front” side. Soldered in just a few places, since tightness is useless here. Then again he soldered two tiny ears to the can and with small screws secured the can on the cabinet lid. But before that, in the side of the can (on top), I cut a 10x40 mm hole, like a cat-piggy bank, and in front of my intrigued wife I threw a ten-thousandth bill there, which earned her the remission of all former sins.

The incoming people admire the novelty, and I especially spoke in detail about the device of the piggy bank and explained how to use it, offering to check the conformity of its purpose with a bill, which the guests did, however, choosing a bill or a coin with a smaller denomination.
