Homemade furniture handles

Hello to all lovers homemade, as you know, since ancient times wood has been such a material that it is a pleasure to work on the machine, and its ease of processing is also a big plus, which is why it is in demand among craftsmen. In this article, I will describe how the author made wooden handles for of furniture, this is not the end of their sphere, they can also be installed on caskets, cabinets and much more, which in principle has the property of opening. Skills for this homemade work are not required much, the main thing is to have the ability to work on a lathe. In this embodiment, it will be a lathe with a three-jaw chuck that will help. And the oak billet will serve as the material because of its strength properties and the beauty of the texture.

In order to make homemade furniture handles, you will need:
* Lathe with three-jaw chuck.
* Wooden block of oak.
* Set of wood cutters.
* Sandpaper of different grain sizes.
* Wax mastic.

That's all the materials and tools are ready for further work.

Step one.
The first thing that needs to be done will be the preparation of the necessary workpiece; for processing on the machine, an oak block in the shape of a square is well suited.

But in the three-jaw chuck this form will not be squeezed, even if it works, then it will not rotate smoothly. In order to evenly install the whetstone, you need to use a sharp knife to cut off the sharp corners of the square side, thereby rounding off the workpiece, which without any problems will evenly compress the cams of the cartridge.

Step Two
Now, having clamped the workpiece more firmly, we give its ends a round shape with the help of a semicircular cutter.

Then we grind it with a cutter, the cutting edge of which is at an angle from this, it is called a cutter-jamb. Using it, you can make the surface smooth, which is what you need to do with our workpiece.

Step Three
With the same cutter, we cut off the end face of the workpiece for further shaping the upper part of the handle.

Then we leave some distance, which is selected based on the destination and your preferences, this is done so that the handle is easy to use and its main part is free. Next, we grind the base, which will be the final part, and its reverse side will fit snugly to the surface where the handle will be attached.

Step Four
After giving the basic shape, it is necessary to make the base of the handle more even with the help of a direct cutter, and to achieve a smooth surface we take sandpaper and grind the rotating handle, Be careful and do not push too hard, as this can overheat the sandpaper, which will entail not only burning your fingers, but also overheating the tree, and later on burning it with a characteristic blackening.

For greater aesthetics and expression, we cover the rotating handle with wax mastic. Wax during friction is heated, thereby being absorbed into the pores of the tree, protecting from external influences, and also giving a matte shine.

Step Five
When our product looks complete, it can already be freed from part of the bar with the help of a sharp edge of the cutter, deepening a little inside the base. The cut-off handle can be used for its intended purpose, setting it in the right place.

The variety of shapes of pens is very large, the author shows a couple of them.
Based on the previous steps, you can give the pen a conical shape, as shown in the photo.

A handle of a spherical shape that will perfectly find its place on a casket or furniture will also look beautiful, though the manufacture of such a handle requires certain skills that you can get in the process of working with the machine.

At the end of these pens, you can also come up with a variety of reasons, but that's all for me.

Thank you all and success in homemade products.
