Electric dryer for mushrooms and apples


Hello everybody. A dryer for mushrooms and apples can be made from the remains of ceramic tiles and nichrome wire. To do this, we need 5 m of nichrome wire and the remains of ceramic tiles. 12V dryer, completely safe for home and cottages.

So 4 whole tiles glued with silicone into a square.

From pieces of tile we make a cross with cuts and we wind a wire on them. Before that, I tested the wire on the power supply in my case, heating to 60 degrees occurred on a 1.1 m segment.


In the center of our design, we glue two pieces of tile to hold the heating elements. And along the edges to thick copper wires we solder nichrome.

From the bottom of the structure we fasten the legs and leave a hole for air circulation.

Solder the power cord and check the temperature. In the summer I use this dryer together with a 150-watt solar panel as the dryer itself is 50 watts ... enough energy to dry in the country of apples and mushrooms for the whole winter. When there is no sun, I turn it on from the power supply.

And at the initial stage of drying, high temperature is harmful: it closes the pores on the product, which reduces the rate of moisture removal.
I meant the drying racks above the heaters.

It is easier - lattices with legs, placed one on top of the other, the mass of the product is small, the frame can be made of lightweight construction perforated corners.
I would try to make the structure closed, and to build an exhaust hood on top - all that it sucks so that it can only come from below through spirals. Then salvation from flies, and will dry faster. It is only necessary to make sure that everything is evenly laid on the gratings - during suction, unlike forcing, the flow will go not completely, but where it is easier for it.

I thank you for your advice, I didn’t think about the cooler .. I was in Norway, I caught cod but I didn’t know where to put it .. then I read on the net that the Norwegians cut the cod on the ridge in half and hang it on a stick for drying in the wind. I did so - my cod in the wind dried out in 3 days and the fish were 3 kilograms each.
I would advise another cooler. Drying is not as hot as the wind! It carries off water vapor, relative humidity around the product decreases and evaporation is accelerated several times. You can add elements (when the purge temperature drops) and somehow adapt the purge. Believe me, the effect will be tremendous - the drying speed will increase significantly!
I did a lot from the refrigerator in the country to dry the apricots and prunes. It warmed up from the sun (painted black), inside it was very warm. When I put a six-meter-high pipe on top and the air flow began to buzz - the temperature dropped a lot, but the drying accelerated several times !!!!! Apples "fell asleep today - got it tomorrow", dry, already crunch. Apricots, of course, longer ...

You can do another 5 elements, but then the temperature rises by half. Optimal for drying apples and mushrooms is 60-80 degrees. When the dryer is working for more than an hour, it rises to 80 degrees. On top of me is a perforated tray for raw materials from stainless steel, and you can also install a stainless steel mesh. You can put a few pallets on this design, I think up to 5, but it will already be a welded stainless steel structure with drawers.
