DIY do-it-yourself thermal cutter

Good afternoon! Today I would like to show how to make a simple and convenient cutter for plastic or a thermorezak.

Everyone has ever had such a case when it was necessary to cut plastic fairly evenly and accurately, and the standard way of heating a knife with gas turns out to be very inefficient and unstable. Therefore, I would like to show you how to make a very convenient thermal cutter for only 50 rubles.

To do this, we need a soldering iron from FIX PRICE for 50 rubles. Of course, something more powerful is desirable, but this is enough. By the way, as a soldering iron it’s completely impossible for them to solder, so a thermoset is its best use.

It’s very easy to make this knife.

Step 1
You need to unscrew the tip, pull it out and shove it with the pointed end back into the soldering iron. And of course tighten the cogs.

Step 2
Need to give it the shape of a knife. And for this, the usual file is quite suitable. The soldering iron tip is soft enough for manual processing. But you can use the emery wheel (if you have one), so the process goes much faster.

Step 3
In the end, you need to walk on the finished blade with a small emery cloth. And this is what should turn out: a thin blade 1 cm long.

Using this thing is easy. We stick the soldering iron into the socket, wait for heating and you can start cutting. If the soldering iron is weak, then you can work even without a hood, because the plastic will not smoke, but immediately melt carefully

That's it! Thanks for attention

If you use such a soldering iron, then, firstly, you don’t have to turn the tip, and secondly, you don’t have to grind the end of the tip, but tilt it (as for a regular soldering iron, but in the form of a knife, as suggested by the author): and there is not a lot of waste, and the surface due to hardening will be stronger and more durable.
