Interesting watches from wooden pallets

Many craftsmen make amazing things out of junk material. So, for example, various wooden pallets can be made furnitureincluding tables, chairs, beds and so on. In addition to boards in wooden pallets, there are also such details as “cubes”. Our author also decided to use them to good use. And as a result, this material turned out to be an interesting wall clock. They can be hung in the workshop, the garage, office, and in the apartment they will look great.

Everything is done quite simply, we process the material, saturate it with oil, stain or apply another coating as desired. As for the clockwork, it can be pulled out of the old watch. By the way, you can buy a ready-made clock mechanism by ordering goods directly through your computer. So, we will consider in more detail how to make such a watch!

Materials and tools used by the author:

Material List:
- old clock ();
- "cubes" from wooden pallets;
- glue for wood;
- self-tapping screws;
- stain, varnish, paint or other.

Tool List:
- a circular saw;
- drill with drills;
- grinder or sandpaper.

Watch making process:

Step one. We get the clockwork
First of all, we need to find the clockwork. You can order ready-made from China, they are different in quality and type of work. So, for example, if you are bothered by clicking the arrow, you can order a mechanism in which the arrow moves continuously. The author took his mechanism from the watch, they are all about the same. The clockwork is fastened, usually with a nut. Remove the arrows and unscrew the nut.

Step Two Preparation of wooden blocks
The author cuts the wooden blocks into two halves, as a result, the “dial” is thinner. The most important thing here is that all the parts are exactly the same thickness, that is, the dial will be flat. We take a ruler and make the necessary marking with a pencil. The whole thing is cut with a circular saw. As a result, the author got 9 parts for making watches.

Step Three Preparing a place for installing the clockwork
The clockwork we have to install in one of the "squares". First, take a caliper and measure how long the tube has, with which the clockwork is attached. Then, precisely of this thickness, cut a piece from the square. Then it will be a cover on which the clockwork will be hidden.

Well, then in the wood we cut out a square cavity in which the clockwork will be placed. We drill holes and cut out the necessary part with a jigsaw. It is convenient to work with a jigsaw.

Step Four Setting the clockwork
Previously, we cut a wooden lid, we need to glue the clockwork to it. To start, we drill a hole in the center clearly. Well, then we glue the clockwork, for this you can use hot glue, epoxy and so on at your discretion. When the glue sets, the cover can be glued to the part with a slot inside under the clockwork. We apply glue and tighten the whole thing together with clamps. For gluing wood, PVA glue or another glue on wood is quite suitable.

Step Five We connect all the blocks together
All blocks must be reliably interconnected. For this, a part made of plywood or other similar material is mounted on the reverse side. Under it, the author cuts out grooves in square details.

Step Six Getting to the watch assembly
To assemble the watch, we take the central part from plywood and in the center we glue to it our clockwork, which we installed inside the wooden case. For gluing we use glue on wood.

Next to the same base we gradually glue the wooden blocks. For their proper location, we use plywood of suitable thickness or other similar sheet material. Instead of glue or together with it, parts can be screwed with screws on the back.

Seventh step. Final processing
As a final treatment, we carefully grind the surface of the watch so that it is smooth and looks beautiful. You can walk on it with a manual belt grinder. Well, then we apply a layer of oil on the surface, due to this the texture of the wood is emphasized. The tree must be completely dry. You can also use varnish or paint as desired. Such a coating will protect the watch from pests and moisture. To make the watch darker, you can use a stain of a suitable shade. The idea of this watch is to make it antique.

That's all, the watch is ready, everything turned out pretty interesting. I hope you enjoyed the project, and you gathered useful information for yourself. Good luck and creative inspiration, if you want to repeat this!
