The New Year and New Year holidays are approaching, and why not spend this time at your favorite place in the garage or workshop. Today, together with the author of the Bonn Factory YouTube channel, we will make an ax-tree.
The author immediately warns that this Chinese ax was decorative even before it fell into his hands, and therefore it is not worth saying that bears will laugh at him when he gets into the taiga with him.
Today for work we need: the old hammer (or rather part of it), as well as the ax itself and a birch board for making an ax.
We will carry out all the work with the help of welding, grinders and enthusiasm. In order for the ax and hammer to be well cut and cooked, first of all we remove paint and rust from them. Here the grinder will help us with the petal circle mounted on it.
This time we will not cut anything much, therefore, in accordance with the sketch, we need to get rid of the extra protrusions and round the sides of the ax, and also decide which part of the hammer we will need for work.
The master took the hammer because, firstly, he had it, and secondly, because its shape and thickness is ideal for making the top of the tree.
As always for confident penetration, we grind the chamfers of both parts and weld them together.
It is worth showing an intermediate result. At the moment, after cleaning the seams, our ax looks like this:
Now, in order to continue work, we erase the previously drawn sketch of the Christmas tree and draw its central part, so to speak, the place where the trunk will go.
Then we reduce the welding mode so that the penetration is shallow, and vice versa, so as to leave a large influx. This influx will become the trunk of our Christmas tree and in the future will set a certain volume.
When surfacing branches, the most important thing is to cook from the bottom up to the stem, in which case we will get the correct order of the layers of the branches.
At this stage, the ax already has its own gloss and resembles the orc armor from the rather famous film “The Lord of the Rings”.
Now select the cutting edges of the branches.There is no need to cut particularly smoothly. The more chaotic - the "live" in the end will be a Christmas tree.
Also, while a cutting wheel is installed, we make the relief of the welds more expressive, otherwise with further work the flap wheel will fly off the path, not having time to dig into the metal.
Using a twisted metal brush, we clean the metal for a long, long time. Over time, it will begin to grind and acquire a roughness that will positively affect our drawing.
As already mentioned at the beginning of the article, our ax is decorative, so it will not be subjected to hardening, but we will use the mountain anyway.
We heat the ax to the colors of discoloration, after which we cool it sharply so that these colors do not escape from the inertia of heating.
I think you will never guess what the author was going to cut the handle for. Meanwhile, we mark the approximate dimensions of the ax.
Yes, if you thought that cutting a master would be a grinder, then congratulations - you guessed it. Therefore, we change the cleaning circle to a circle on a tree and get to work.
This process has, of course, the other side. It’s extremely difficult to do fine work with a grinder. It turns out some kind of ax, but still, the idea was not to make an ideal handle, but similar to the fact that it was just a branch from the forest stuck in an ax, naturalism, so to speak. The Christmas tree ax is ready.
