Materials:
Car spring.

Also, the author will need gravel and mastic for wood impregnation.
From the spring, the author cut off not a large piece.


After warmed up this piece.

And then leveled it.

After warming up the workpiece again, he forged it to the desired shape. The photo below shows the form.




The edge of the workpiece was forged of this shape.


After the author shortened the workpiece.


And the second edge was forged similarly to the first.


Then he placed another hot billet in gravel.

And after a couple of hours I got it already completely cooled.

And he started roughing on a grinding machine.

After file processing.


And again on the machine.



Then he adjusted the edges with a file.

The result at this stage.

Then he processed the workpiece with fine sandpaper.

The blade of this homemade product will have one-sided sharpening, like a planer knife.

Therefore, the author made the descent only on one side.

The descent angle of 30 degrees.



It turned out somehow.


Then he sharpened the blade on fine sandpaper.


Then stepping back 10 mm from the blade to the edges.



In places of marking, the author warmed up the workpiece.

And bent the edge at about 90 degrees.


A similar procedure was carried out with the second edge.



And at this stage, when the author corrected the region, such a nuisance happened.


The master tried to fix it by welding. But this did not bring a positive result.

But this did not stop our hero. And he decided to make exactly such a detail, and so that this business does not take much time, the author will make it out of a strip of carbon steel 1075.The author transferred all the dimensions of the previous part to the steel strip.


And with the help of angle grinders I cut the workpiece.



And then - everything, as with the first workpiece. Descent to 30 degrees.

Sharpening.

Heating and bending the edges.


Only now our hero, before each amendment of the part warms it up a bit. As they say, we learn from our mistakes.


Having reached the stage at which the trouble occurred, the master proceeded to the next step.

And to be more precise, he set about hardening the part.



Hardening test. Excellent hardening turned out.

After a short vacation.

In the meantime, the vacation of the first part is done, the author will manufacture the pen. To do this, he will cut a piece of suitable size from the timber.


After will make markings on it.


And remove excess.

After marking up again.




And removing the excess.








Next, the author needs to make a couple of holes at a slight angle to secure the first part. And here the author again made a mistake, it was first necessary to make holes, and then process the timber.

But the master will still try to make holes.


Fitting.

Drilling already finished holes.

Trying on again.

In order for the knife to sit in its place tightly required to make small grooves.


But at this stage, the master realized that what he intended would not work out.

And the author will again have to correct his mistake by making a new pen. But this time he will make holes first.


Then the grooves.

And only when the knife fell into place, as expected.

The master proceeded to marking and processing the timber.

Tool performance test. Homemade works.

But you need to slightly increase the gap between the blade and the handle.

File processing.

Verification

Now everything works fine.

Now it remains to give the edges of the handle a suitable shape for aesthetics and a more comfortable grip of the tool during operation.











After all the treatments, the master will impregnate the handle with mastic.

Set the knife in place, then make marks.

And removing the knife, cut off the excess.

Then it will process the edges on the grinding machine, thereby removing all burrs remaining from the cut.

And now set the knife back.

So the tool is ready. The height of the blade on this tool can be adjusted. Well, now: the test.



The tool works great.
