DIY welder's hammer from rubbish

Hello dear readers and the inhabitants of our site!
In this article, the author of the YouTube channel will tell you how he made a simple welder hammer out of junk.

Materials
- Old punch chisel

- Steel hexagon 12 mm

- Steel strip 30 mm
- pine board
- Impregnation for wood

- Nuts and bolts M6 for a hex key.

Instruments, used by the author.
- Bulgarian
- Grinder
- Petal stripping and cutting discs
- Wire stripping nozzle
- Drilling machine or screwdriver
- Allen key
- Welding machine
- Band-saw
- Vise, clamps, clamps, hammer.

Manufacturing process.
The author found a chisel for a punch, and a worn connection and work surface.

Now he needs to cut a workpiece 150 mm long from the working part.

On the back of the workpiece you need to make a cone with a depth of 30 mm. It is advisable not to overheat the workpiece so as not to lose the strength of the steel.

This is such a rough descent.

After processing on a grinder, this element looks much better.

From trimming a chisel, or from a 12 mm hexagon, you need to cut off a workpiece 60 mm long.

Then from a 30 mm steel strip cuts off the workpiece 140 mm long.

In a hexagonal workpiece, a groove must be cut in a width (strip thickness) of 4 mm and a depth of about 20 mm.

Now it clogs a steel strip into the groove.

Welds both parts together, knocks down scale.

The resulting weld seams.

Then it strips the head of the hammer itself and welds it to the handle.

The author should again clean the seam.

Using a wire stripper nozzle cleans all surfaces. Be careful when working with such a nozzle, and use protective equipment. Procrastination can fly off, and injure you.

It's time to make the handle. The author cut two blanks for her from a pine board.

I drilled three holes for mounting bolts, made countersunk holes for hats and nuts.

Then he scored nuts and bolts, tightened them with a hex wrench.

Cut off the extra length of the bolts.

Now, using a petal stripping disk, it gives the handle a rounded shape, and slightly processes the metal parts of the hammer.

So, here's a hammer from the author. The handle should be soaked with linseed oil or wax. This will help protect it from moisture and give the texture of the wood a contrast. If desired, of course, it is possible to conduct heat treatment of steel.

And here is the author’s old hammer. He has a very mild brisk steel, and a terrible appearance.

In order to bring down the scale in the corner seam - you need to use the sharp part of the striker.

For such seams, the side of the chisel is perfect. Slag flies off almost after the first hit.

And another attempt to bring down the slag. The author admits that the seam did not work out very well, but it is important to check the tool itself.

Thanks to the author for a simple but useful workshop tool!

All good mood, good luck, and interesting ideas!

And if the shank of the chisel has broken off - the road is there for him =)
Solid work, although the chisel from the punch is certainly a pity! smile
