A well near your home or on your household is a pretty necessary thing. This is the use of water for everyday everyday needs, and its use for irrigation or some other technical needs. Wells usually look like a concrete ring standing lonely on a site. Such a construction is unlikely to delight the eye of the prudent owner, so he will try to either hide or decorate this disgrace. One way to fix this is to build a decorative wooden house frame around the old concrete ring. It is best to make a closed frame with a tight-fitting lid to avoid getting into the water any things that pollute it - dust, fallen leaves of trees, etc. After all, the primary task of this structure is the protection of water. Protection from precipitation is also needed, so a canopy is often installed over the well, preferably a gable. Such a canopy will better cope with precipitation.
In this article, by the example of the author, we will consider all the stages of creating such a frame for an old well. The entire structure will be built of wood. To work, the author needed the following tools:
Circular saw with the ability to change the degree of cut,
electric planer
grinder or grinder,
screwdriver
hammer, screws

So, let's begin. The first step in making any homemade is the preparation of the material - its sawing, marking, grinding, etc. The same thing happens in this case. Having taken a board of the required thickness, the author first passes through it with a plane, removing everything that is not needed and making it even and smooth. Next, you need a circular saw with the ability to change the angle of the saw. You can do without it, having done everything purely by hand, but this is much faster and more accurate. The blanks will be sawn at an angle of 30 degrees. For each segment, 6 boards are needed, which are assembled into a hexagon. You collect so many segments so that the old concrete ring completely closes with them and there is a small ledge on top.Once you have collected the number of segments you need, you must fasten them together. Made in Poland fastens them to each other with the help of long screws, making holes in the upper parts of the segments and screwing them to the lower ones.
The second step, the author makes a kind of bumpers on the upper part of the frame. Installs and mounts it on the frame. Inside it, under the rim, the guide rails are screwed, which will serve as stoppers for the cover of the house frame. Next, cut the boards for the lid. Lays them on guides and fastens them together with strips from the bottom. Further, turning the lid over, the author fastens several more bars in parallel with the fact that they fasten the lid. These bars will fasten the hatch through which access to water in the well will take place. With the help of a jigsaw, the hatch itself is cut out and the hinges are attached. On the reverse side of the hatch, a pair of persistent bars is attached so that the hatch does not fall into the inside of the well and does not loosen the hinges. A lifting handle is installed. Also made of wood.
The next step is the manufacture of a gable canopy over the entire structure. They are made of bars, approximately 150x100 mm. Guides are attached to the support bars at an angle. They are fixed with transverse bars, which gives rigidity to the structure. The gate is also made of timber. The corners are cut off from the bar and, with the help of a plane and grinder, they are brought to its round shape. The well frame is covered with a protective compound.
An old lifting mechanism is dismantled from the concrete ring. All protruding parts are removed. A new decorative frame is installed, to which supports for the canopy are attached. They need to be very firmly fixed. because all the main workload will be on them. When the water rises, they can loosen, so you need to fix them firmly in advance in order to avoid repairs in the future. Between them, with the help of a metal stud, a gate is installed to wind the rope and raise the water. A lifting handle is mounted on the stud. The cover is installed in its place.
Cover the canopy with planks. All wooden parts are necessarily coated with a protective composition to extend their service life. After, as all the boards are installed on the canopy, they are covered with flexible tiles. A skate is mounted on top, and facades on the sides.
So the old well turned into a decoration element of your site, and even with a payload! The well is tightly covered with a lid so that nothing gets into it and the safety is at its best!
