I do not need full-fledged window grilles: all the same, a third, high floor. But the born son, who is growing by leaps and bounds, made me think about protection in the apartment. A double bed, located in the smallest room, is adjacent to the window, even the radiator of the heating battery was moved. Here it is - an excellent "step", allowing you to quickly and easily climb onto the windowsill. And since we live in Crimea, we have to ventilate in the summertime non-stop. Therefore, in order not to worry, you need to close the window with a grill from those inside.
But I didn’t want to order a classic window grill. And there are many reasons:
• It looks, as for me, such a window from the inside is not very. And outside - even worse.
• Welded look very simple and straightforward. Whereas the price tag for a beautiful, forged, just "horse".
• Installation is not on three sides, but only on two, from above and to the left. Will it hang firmly enough? And will there be an undertaking about anything? Then, as an option for the whole window, and not just for its opening sash, I did not even consider it.
• Finally, it is needed for a year or two, and even then, only for the summer season. For the rest of the time, she will simply block the sunlight.
Therefore, the question arose: why order it? It is better to do this protection yourself.
No sooner said than done. I decided to do what quickly: chrome pipes with a diameter of 25 mm, which are actively used for commercial equipment. There was an experience. And if you want maximum strength, look for an option with a wall of 1 mm.
I needed:
• Three pipes with a length of 3 m - pieces of 60 cm from each even remained.
• Four flanges.
• Eight T-joints for pipes.
• 12 screws are more authentic and thicker plus the same number of dowels.
Minuscule.
There are also few tools:
• Hammer drill with a drill bit.
• A screwdriver with a cross tip.
• Grinder with a cutting disc.
• Hammer or mallet.
• Hex keys.
• Tape measure, ruler, marker, pencil.
That's all, let's get started.
The window is ordinary, 1.3 by 1.5 m.Metal-plastic, with one deaf and one opening sash, divided in half by the central part of the frame.
This is where you need to make the grill. But first, we take out the double-glazed window from the blind sash. Carefully, it's heavy enough. The rafters are on latches, so there will be no difficulties.
We mark, drill three holes, drive in three dowels and fasten the flange to the screws.
We also do it on the return wall and insert the cut off pipe. It should include a “pull”: it’s more reliable.
We do the same on top. The horizontal part is ready.
But before you fix the pipe, put on the T-shaped joints on it: so then it will be easier to assemble the structure.
Insert the vertical pipe sections. They should not hang out either. But they should not bend horizontal pipes. Therefore, the rule “measure seven times - cut one” is relevant.
While moving them around, I liked the resulting “bonus”: if you move them close to each other and move them to the middle, they will not block sunlight at all. For the winter - the very thing: you don’t even have to remove anything.
Tighten the screws. Necessarily on the flanges themselves,
and then when you arrange the pipes at an equal distance from each other, and the screws on the mounts. This is where the hex keys came in handy.
Mosquito net. I was worried that the lattice would not allow it to be installed, but no. A little more movement, and she stands in her place.
That's all the wisdom, the work is over. You can call your spouse to accept the result.
Immediately I foresee the critics' remarks that these chrome-plated pipes are not intended for outside use, they will soon peel off, fade, rust stains appear and other remarks that the choice of material is frankly unsuitable. I will not argue with them. But after all, I’ve been making this grid not for many years, but for a couple of seasons: then you can always simply remove and throw it away.
I looked at the structure from the street. As for me - it turned out just great.
So, definitely, if your goal is to make the window as safe as possible for little boys and girls, but laconic aesthetics is no less important, then definitely, I recommend repeating this homemade.
