In this article, the author of YouTube channel “DIY Creators” sets a rather simple but useful task, to learn how to make a groove notch with a simple circular saw.
The technology that the author offers can be used on many materials. In this case, it will be sheet plywood. The whole point of this method is to make a wide cut through a series of simple cuts.
Materials
- Sheet plywood.

- Square, pencil.
Manufacturing process.
The author marks the boundaries of the groove. Aligns a right angle with a ruler.
Places a portable circular saw over the intended cut and sets the depth. It is important to be extremely careful so as not to cut through the thickness of the material through.
The key to success is setting tight boundaries on both sides of the saw so that it does not go beyond the pencil marks. To this end, the master places two rectangular triangles on both sides, and presses them with clamps. But you can also use the ruler.
So, the first cut. The author presses the device to one of the guides and makes a cross section.
Then he moves the device to the opposite side and, focusing on the second rectangle, makes a second slot.
Now he begins to move from the edge inward to the middle. So, the master makes several cuts until he removes all the material in the middle. Until the end of the process, you should constantly monitor the condition of the guides - whether there are any displacements in them.
It remains only to use the chisel and remove the remaining wood fibers from the groove.
Now you can insert a transverse board there. The author slightly knocks the board with a mallet. All is ready!
This method is good when you need to make wooden joints, for example, in the manufacture of shelves and more. The connection is very tight and holds even without glue.
Thanks to the author for a simple but useful way to make groove joints.
All good mood, good luck, and interesting ideas!
