High-speed off-road bicycle (18 speeds, 50 cubic motor)


If you dream of a powerful home-made off-road moped, you can take a closer look at this project. It will be about how to install a motor of 50 cubes on bike. Eventually homemade received 18 speeds, which allows you to smoothly accelerate the bike to high speed. Of course, riding a bike over 50 km / h is already life-threatening, but extra power will not hurt for off-road driving. Such transport will also be quite economical, since the bike is light and can be coasted. Of course, it is forbidden to use such vehicles on roads of national importance, but in the village for mushrooms or fishing, such vehicles will be indispensable. Materials and tools used by the author:

Homemade manufacturing process:

Step one. Engine installation
First of all, we have to install the engine on the bicycle frame. The author has welded a piece of a profile pipe to the frame, to which a mounting plate will subsequently be welded. Of course, such fasteners are not enough and it is better to fix the motor more securely, this is especially important if the homemade product is used for off-road use, when the fastener needs to withstand heavy loads.
Under the mounting holes of the motor, cut out pieces of the corner, channel and so on.








Step Two Chain drive
Chain transmission is carried out on an axis with pedals. We cut the connecting rods together with the pedals, we need to install the driven sprocket on the left connecting rod. This is where the transmission from the engine will go. The author welded an asterisk for a moped, turning a head from the remains of a connecting rod. As for the right side, then the sprocket remains unchanged, but we also cut the connecting rod so that it does not hang in vain.







Step Three Fixing plate
To install the motor, we weld a piece of steel plate to the profile pipe on the frame. Steel must be thick and strong enough to withstand heavy loads.



Step Four Exhaust
The author had to redo the exhaust pipe, because she did not want to be installed at the right angle. We cut off the native mount and digest it. Of course, it would be good to additionally fix the muffler closer to the end, so that nothing would break in the event of an impact on the muffler.






Step Five Running boards
Be sure to make the steps for the moped. The author used ready-made folding steps, they are good because they fold and it is convenient to transport the moped to the parking lot. If you have no problems with the place, you can simply weld pieces of pipes as steps, and put pieces of hose on them.


Step Six New star block
The author decided to replace the block of stars, the diameter of the new stars turned out to be larger. The larger the diameter of the sprockets will be at the rear, the higher the torque will be and the more dirt the moped will be able to drive through.



Seventh step. Gas tank and final assembly
We install a reliable and safe steel gas tank on the frame, and also install a faucet so that gasoline does not evaporate in vain through the carburetor during long-term parking.

We install a throttle handle on the steering wheel, it is better to put an additional spring on the carburetor so that the handle does not jam in the open state. As for ignition, the author put a button with which you can turn off the engine. If the engine is equipped with a starter, we prepare a place under the battery and make the starter control button.















Step Eight. Test
Homemade is ready, refuel and test a moped. You can start the engine with a manual starter or electric, if any. Without load, the wheel spins up to a speed equivalent to 82 km / h.

Equipping the homemade signal, the author went to the test. Homemade perfectly accelerates, and it’s also convenient to choose the desired driving mode by switching speeds.

For very serious off-road conditions, the author installed a small diameter asterisk as a leading asterisk (on the block on the right), as a result, the moped turned into a real tractor.
