The board itself is made of wood, as expected, but it has a separate area, cast from epoxy, which imitates the sandy seashore. Materials and tools used by the author:
Material List:
- a board from a beautiful and durable wood species (ash, oak, maple, etc.);
- acrylic;
- pebbles, shells from shells and other artifacts to your taste;
- "filling" epoxy resin and dye for it.

The cutting board manufacturing process:
Step one. Formwork preparation
First of all, we will select the right piece of the board, it is extremely important that the material is already smooth and well-dried, otherwise deformations and cracks can be an unpleasant surprise. Next, we need to cut the board so that we get an interesting pattern, the author has an imitation of a stream or something like that. You can cut such a contour with a tape cutting machine, a jigsaw or even a hacksaw, then grinding the place of the cut.
To form a shoreline, the author removed the edges using a hand milling cutter. But you can walk with a knife on a tree, so everything will look even more realistic. Next, we need a flat table or another plane, glue it with tape, this will be the base to which the epoxy will not stick.
We also glue the walls, use acrylic for these purposes, and use hot glue as a sealant. The author also formed hot glue sides to slightly raise the level of resin above the tree. Note that when hardening the resin tends to shrink a little.
Step Two Base fill
First of all, we plant a little transparent resin, pour it on the bottom and with a brush we saturate the wood well with resin, and also grease all the cracks. The result is a primary coating that minimizes the number of bubbles after pouring and makes the fill quality.
Well, then you can fill in the base for the stream. The author used epoxy resin, adding a little blue dye to it. And to make the layer opaque, add a little white dye.
Step Three Final fill
When the base is set, we put shells on it, as well as pebbles and other artifacts to your taste. At the end, fill the final layer of resin, it will be transparent. If there are bubbles, we expel them with a hairdryer. We are waiting for everything to harden completely.
Step Four Treatment
Carefully remove the formwork, acrylic can be picked up with an office knife. Well, from the base the board should lag without problems, since it is glued with tape. We trim the edges of the board with a hand circular saw, and also round them with a hand milling cutter.
Next, we grind the plane well with a manual grinder and apply a thin layer of epoxy resin or varnish with a spatula or brush, which will return the former transparency to the resin and impregnate the wood. Please note that all materials must not be toxic, as they will enter the food!
Then the author again made a light grinding to remove bubbles and other roughnesses, and again applied the final layer. Of course, it is best to coat such cans with varnish, but it is not a fact that you will find varnish that is safe to use.
That's all, now the board is ready, the homemade product looks great. Of course, for safety reasons, it is better to use linseed oil and other impregnations from natural materials for final coatings, they will be safe.
