A simple way to make square holes in a board with a circular saw

Hello dear readers andthe inhabitants of our site!
Surely you all know the desire to give the interior of your home or workplace some zest. There are some special wood processing techniques that are easy enough to repeat. Many masters will not immediately understand how the author did this.

In this article, Phil, the author of YouTube channel “Woodsmith”, offers you such decorative elements of furniturethat can be cut on a conventional circular saw. It will be a bookshelf with square windows on its sides.

Materials
- cherry boards
- PVA glue.

—  A circular saw.

Manufacturing process.
These seemingly complex end-to-end “windows” are in fact not at all difficult to make. The author emphasizes that he often makes all decorative elements of furniture from white oak. However, in this case, the master will make the sides of the bookcase from cherry wood. In addition, he uses red alder for stubs. First, the author prepares a pair of such wooden ingots of cherry wood.

Then he cuts each into three parts: two identical sides and one central narrow strip. The key to success in this matter is to take into account the width of the blade of the saw blade.

When cutting three segments, a regular disk is used. And here is what we have: two outer wide stripes and one narrow dividing strip.

The next step, the master cuts out the recesses, two in each wide segment. To do this, he uses a half-inch DADO disc, lifting it half an inch up. The same can be done with a conventional saw blade, first by making two cuts at the edges, and then selecting the rest of the material in the center of the groove.

This creates rectangular cutouts. It is important to position each board correctly: its inside should be turned down. At this edge, a cut will be made.

In order not to rearrange the emphasis each time, the master attaches a lining block to it.
For the first series of cuts, he places the workpiece flush with the lining block, while during the second series of cuts, the master moves the plank all the way.

When all the cuts are done, the author again combines all three segments and ... we see the desired two pairs of windows.

It remains only to glue the elements, polish the surface, and get an unusual decorative solution.
He made the shelf itself according to the project, the drawing of which is presented in the picture.
