Hello everybody. Each time after forging a knife, a wedge must be formed. There are a lot of tools for these purposes, someone like I squeeze the ushma into teski, someone on Grinder, well, and if there is nothing but a file, then they make it device like this.

On the Internet there are many different kinds of adapt - this is the most common and easy to repeat. The shape of the wedge on this fixture is formed very easily. You can also make a couple of files with different grains, you can also adjust the angle of the wedge.

Well, that’s all I’ve said, now I’m starting to create my own version of this good thing.

We will need

A piece of board 2.5 on 100mm 20cm
File
Rod 10mm 40cm
Self-tapping hook
And a bolt with nuts for clamping

I take a piece of board 20 cm flat, hide and burn for a look like this

Now I need a hook itself, I’ve cut it, I took 8 cm long

I cut a little and bend like this

I retreat from the edge of 1 cm and drill a small through hole so that the board does not burst. Twist the hook

Now I start the file, and here it is 20 cm long

Next I will need a rod 10 mm 40 cm long

I fasten the file to the rod with wire. You can take a longer file and wider it will be faster, but I only had one at hand, I also saw a small adaption somewhere around 5 cm, for which she did not know.

Now I take a piece of the same board and half of it and fasten it with screws to the main board. This is for mounting the knife on the device by drilling a hole for the screw

For mounting, you can take anything you want. I just got a hook with a plate for fastening

I screw everything in its place it clamps well

Well, that's it, I am putting everything in its place. The adaptation is ready for all the work it took me about forty minutes, and there are a lot of benefits and time saved. Here are assembled

It takes very well, so I tried it on an unnecessary piece of iron

Well, that’s all the device works very well and at the price of the entire cost of a file, and everything else is lying in the yard.I have no regrets about the time spent, the device is good, easy to perform and work, you can work with almost any length of the blade, you can change the file grain and you can work with any angle of the wedge, and it is much more beautiful than on emery.

I do not claim at the same time that they are "engaged in garbage"! Everyone goes crazy in his own way. It seems strange to someone that I like, for example, me!))))

P.S. If the "hand is full" - you can just carefully remove the grinder with a petal circle, and then "finish" it with a belt grinder. (This if there is no grinder). If you don’t feel sorry for the time (or are not sure of your accurate and correct work with angle grinders with one hand) - you can immediately on the “ribbon” ... (Anyway, it’s much easier and several times faster than with your hands !!!) Yes, on an emery at worst, putting the emphasis at the right angle and quickly moving the blade back and forth!

The article can be called "Back to the Last Century." It is very sad that the author handles a good (or maybe the worst carbon content) forged steel with a file and does not spare his hands. Where are modern machines (emery, grinder)?
