Some of you may have an old wooden furniture with defects in coating and cracks in various nodes.
The author is engaged in the repair and restoration of old furniture with its subsequent sale in a vintage store.
In this article, the author of the YouTube channel “Dashner Design & Restoration” will show readers the technique of restoring countertops.
This method is one of the easiest, and available to almost every one of you. Special tools for him are almost not required.

Manufacturing process.
Here is a teak desk. His countertop is in a deplorable state: on it are traces of moisture left by cups and other utensils. Perhaps there were flower pots. It can also be traces of overheated objects.
Among other things, the collet has a large crack.
The master approaches the panel from the back and looses the screws that secure the steel corner.
Then, using a screwdriver with a thin drill, he drills several small holes for the syringe needle along the crack.
Introduces a needle into them and tries to fill the internal cavities as much as possible. The master uses thick PVA glue.
After that, he pulls together the structural elements with several clamps.
Next, the author proceeds to the processing of countertops. With a blade from a carpentry knife, he removes the old lacquer finish. Most of the paint suddenly disappears with it, which in itself is a good sign, indicating that the paint penetrated more into the varnish than into the wood itself.Such stripping is easier than, say, treating with nail polish remover.
By the way, before the surface was cleaned with a piece of glass with a straight and even chip, this is also quite an effective way. However, it is best to use special wood loops.
When scraping, the blade must be held almost at right angles to the surface.
After that, there is a stripping with any orbital sander with an emery disk of 180 grit. During grinding, do not press too hard on the grinding machine, otherwise the disc may leave circular marks.
If you do not have a grinding machine, but there is a screwdriver, then it will be enough for you to purchase in the store special disk nozzle.
Now a new finish is applied - the author prefers “silk” polyurethane. The author gently rubs it on the surface of the tabletop with a piece of natural fabric.
The rest of the table was in quite good condition. Nevertheless, the master also updates them, having previously processed them with a small steel sponge. After that, he applies a thin layer of teak oil, which is a mixture of oil and varnish.
All excess oily coatings are washed thoroughly with a cloth. Teak oil perfectly fills all scratches. Only then can you put a finish layer.
And here is the finished result. Hardly anyone would think that this is old furniture!
By the way, for those who are interested in a more complex and detailed method of surface restoration, I recommend that you familiarize yourself with the recent article.
I thank the author for the simple but effective methods of restoration of old furniture!
All good mood, good luck, and interesting ideas!
