Street lamp basket from a profile pipe

Street lamp basket from a profile pipe

Hello dear readers! In this article, I bring to your attention a detailed process of creating and describing a street lamp made from a profile pipe by the author of a YouTube channel Nikolay Chernyshov.

To work, the author needed tools and accessories such as:
-conductor for bending a profile pipe,
- grinder, with a cutting disc,
welding machine and electrodes,
-hammer,
-roulette,
-Money gum
profile pipe
-electric component - cable, cartridge.

For the basis of his creation, Nikolai uses a profile pipe. Unfortunately, he did not indicate its size. But personally, in my opinion, the thinner you find a profile, the better. Since the weight of the finished product will be lighter. Initially, the author himself wanted to make a lantern out of a metal square bar, but because of the heavy weight, he abandoned this idea.

First of all, the pieces of the profile pipe necessary in size are measured and cut. Parts of the basket are made of them. The author is oppressed by using a homemade conductor. It is based on a pipe with a diameter of 76 mm. Small pieces of a metal square are welded onto it on one plane relative to each other. One serves to fix the workpiece on the conductor, so that with any effect on it, it does not jump out of the mount. At the second end there is a limiter, so that as soon as the workpiece reaches it, stop the impact on it. Inserting the profile pipe the conductor part fixing it, Nikolay, using the lever to reduce the applied force on the workpiece, begins to twist it clockwise. The result is a bulk blank for the future lamp.

Having prepared a sufficient number of segments, and the author has 9 pieces, he puts them together and puts money gum on the edges of the blanks. They help to more quickly give the workpieces the necessary shape of a basket or flower bud. In the center of the basket, the author inserts a round metal pipe.Around it, the blanks are already given the necessary shape. Further, the author tightly fixes it and begins to weld segments to each other. After that, the unnecessary ends of the bud are cut off by the grinder.

A metal ring made of the same profile will be welded onto one of the sides of the basket. Having marked the location of the ring on the segments, the author cuts off the top of the workpiece. Further, a ring is welded to this part.

According to Nikolay’s idea, a cartridge with a tube will be inserted at the end of which there is a thread in the part of the basket where the segments are interconnected. With the help of a rubber gasket, a metal washer and a nut, all this will be fixed inside the basket. a 57 mm pipe will be installed on top, onto which a plug with a cable hole will be welded. A ring will be installed on top of the cap, for which the lamp will hang on the bracket.

Now all the parts are interconnected in a single design. When welding plugs on a pipe with a ring, the author should have through holes matching the cable outlet, which in my opinion is not very convenient. It is easier to make these holes after welding. In the 57th pipe itself, a through hole is drilled on the side. The same hole is made on the basket. With a metal screw or bolt, the lampshade will be attached to the suspension ring. The author made this part removable so that when the interior of the lantern fails, they can be reached and necessary repairs made. All parts of the lantern are thoroughly cleaned, preparing it for painting.

After painting, the insides of the lantern are collected, the cable is laid and tested for operability. Everything works. It remains to install it on the bracket in the right place.

As a result, the author got such an unusual lamp from a profile pipe.

I would like to say separately that this type of lamp, with the design in which it was assembled by the author, in my opinion, does not fit the concept of a street lamp. Of course, you can also hang it on the street, under the open sky, but precipitation can damage the inside of the lantern, which may cause a short circuit or something else. In order to fearlessly leave it in the open air, this lamp is vitally needed protection in the form of some kind of casing or shade. For beauty, it can be made in the form of plexiglass petals. But this is my personal opinion, which I in no way want to offend the author of this wonderful homemade!

I wish him creative success!

I completely agree with Alexey. The design is not only beautiful, but also unusual
