The outdoor fireplace is different from the fireplace in the house. There are not so strict safety measures, you do not need to make a damper with a hole for the chimney. Anyway, an outdoor fireplace is a great place for a family vacation!
We will need:
- bricks, cinder blocks;
- pieces of reinforcement;
- concrete plates;
- decorative stones;
- chimney pipe;
- a solution of refractory cement;
- concrete mortar;
- galvanized anchors;
- trowel, shovel, level, old boxes, wheelbarrow, bucket for mortars, rubber mallet.
Step 1
First, select the place where you will build the future fireplace. Dig a hole under the foundation. You can’t do without a foundation - the weight of the fireplace will turn out pretty heavy.
Step 2
To increase the strength of the foundation, place the reinforcement from each other at a small distance - about 5 centimeters. Next, fill the foundation with a solution of concrete. The height of the foundation will average 20 centimeters. But it all depends on the soil in your area, so first you will need to familiarize yourself with the requirements for the foundation.
Step 3
Now wait for the foundation to dry slightly. After that, put solid concrete blocks on it - you get the basis for the hearth of the fireplace. Blocks in this case are the most convenient material, they will help you to create an even foundation without any problems, you will not have to suffer and even level it out.
Step 4
Lay out the following layers of the hearth box with a brick, fastening them with a special solution of refractory cement. Check the correct installation - this will require a level.
Step 5
So, the hearth box is ready, it is time to additionally strengthen it with bricks and cinder blocks. Leave a place in the upper masonry that will serve as a hole in the chimney. To strengthen the resulting structure, insert galvanized anchors directly into the seams between the cinder blocks.
Step 6
Now it's up to the small - install the chimney. Fix it vertically with cement and cinder blocks.
Step 7
The basic design is ready. Go to the decoration. Apply concrete mortar to the walls of the outdoor fireplace, fix decorative stones, choosing them in size. Scratch all joints with mortar.
Now it remains to wait until the structure dries and the solution “grabs” all the elements of the structure. It’s better not to use the fireplace as intended for a couple of days.
