DIY poker table

The poker table cannot boast of its history, since this is a relatively recent feature device for playing cards.

The prototype of modern poker tables is the ombre tables, which appeared in Europe more than three hundred years ago. These tables are characterized by a polygonal shape, namely five or hexagonal. Triangular tables were also less common, but due to their small size and rather inconvenient design, due to which a sufficiently large number of people who wanted to play cards could not fit in such a table, they quickly went out of fashion and circulation. These tables were covered with cloth, which was not chosen by chance for lining. The fact is that when playing poker, players chalked down counters and scores on the tabletop. From this, the countertop looked shabby and scruffy. Cloth in this regard lasted much longer. We cleaned it with a special round brush.

The first poker tables appeared in the Wild West. Passengers who sailed on ships on the Mississippi River played poker at these tables. Later, in the 19th century, when poker came to taste in expensive living rooms and secular houses, and ombre tables were bulky and uncomfortable, and also could not accommodate the entire number of people who wanted to play, poker tables began to be made. The oval shape was considered the most convenient.

The author of this photo report, apparently, is a big fan of this game, so he decided do it yourself gather a poker table at home.

To do this, such components as:
Plywood 4-10-21 mm, underlay for laminate, cloth, laminate, 4 support legs for the table, isolon, screws, glue, brackets.

To begin with, I marked an octagon on 21 mm plywood, which I then cut out. This is the future countertop. The legs are screwed to it. The foundation is ready.

Now you need to make a base on which the cloth will be attached. For this, 10 mm plywood was needed. An octagon is also cut out of it, on which the cloth will be attached. For a comfortable game, so that cards can be easily taken from the table, and not picked up with a fingernail, as if they were just put on cloth on plywood, the blank was first sheathed with a laminate backing. She has sufficient thickness and the necessary rigidity. It is attached using a construction stapler and brackets. Then the cloth is pulled, which is previously slightly moistened with water. This is necessary so that wrinkles do not form on the fabric and after drying, it more tightly tightens the base.

Further, at the edges of the table, it is necessary to put plywood, which must first be sheathed with a laminate.

Now the armrests are made, which are cut from the same plywood as the tabletop itself, with a diameter of 21 mm. It is easier to cut out when the very base of the table is cut - the countertop. In order to evenly and accurately cut the workpiece, you need a miter box. With it, parts are cut at the angle we need. Platband is attached to plywood. All this is attached to each other and covered with isolon. Now we hide all this under the skin of leatherette. We tighten all the details, we fasten the stapler, and the docking nodes at the edges are closed with strips of the same leatherette. As a result, no docking connections are visible.

Further, all the details of the table are assembled into a single whole and you can begin to play. This is what happened to the author at the end of all the work done. In my opinion, a worthy substitute for a purchased analogue!
