Not all private sectors are gasified today, and there are still a lot of distant villages where the issue of heating is quite acute. The main source of fuel for heating here is firewood, but you probably do not need to tell how hard it is to stock them. Perhaps the greatest difficulty is chopping wood, this activity is not only very tiring, but also boring. To make things easier, faster and more fun, you can build a special device that will make the process of chopping wood at times easier.
Wood splitters are diverse, often you can find those that are driven by an electric motor. But what if there is no light? Next, an example of creating a simple hydraulic splitter that will allow the ax to rest will be considered. He does not need electricity and fuel, because it is powered by human power.
Materials and tools for assembly:
- hydraulic jack;
- profile pipe 40x50;
- corners;
- steel plates with a thickness of 6-8 mm;
- rubber harness;
- a piece of metal with a thickness of at least 30 mm (to create a wedge that will split wood);
- bolts M12;
- welding, grinder, measuring tool, drill and more.
The process of making wood splitter:
Step one. Making a frame for a splitter
To create the frame, a profile pipe 40X50 mm from the rack was used. But during the tests it turned out that the frame is not strong enough, it just bent. To strengthen the design, a farm was made. How to make it can be seen in the photo.
The guide is welded to the platform, the seams between the platform and the guide must be of high quality and reliably connect the elements. A scarf is welded on the back of the guide.
To make the slider you need a corner. It is cut into pieces of the desired length, and then welded. The slider should slide freely along the guide, but there should be no strong backlash. To strengthen the place where the rod of the hydraulic jack will rest, a piece of a metal plate is welded.
Step Two The basis for the jack
For homemade a hydraulic jack with a lifting capacity of 10 tons is used. Under it you need to make a good support. for these purposes, strips of metal 6-8 mm thick will be needed. They are welded under the heel of the jack. However, you can use a less powerful jack, for these purposes, a device and 6 tons is quite suitable.
Step Three Finalization of the jack handle
Since the jack will be driven by the foot, the handle will have to be finalized. The author simply welds it, getting the necessary bends. A special pedal can be welded under the foot to make it easier to work. In order for the handle to return to its original state, the author welded a roller to the lower part of the structure, and then tied a tourniquet to the handle. However, it would be more professional to use a spring.
Step Four Cutting part
For the manufacture of the cutting part, you need a piece of steel with a thickness of at least 3 mm. It is sharpened in the form of a wedge. The wedge is attached to the guide using three M12 screws. The screws must be checked from time to time so that they are not cut off.
That's all, the splitter is ready. For his work does not need electricity, just put the block and push the lever with your foot. After that, it will easily and simply split.
