DIY homemade eccentric press

In this article, Ivan, the author will show how he made an eccentric press for pressing bearings into the roller housing, as well as for pressing out all kinds of bushings, bearings.

This is a very useful device that is useful for those who often encounter such moments as pressing out and pressing in various bushings and bearings.

The main materials used in the assembly.
Channel 80mm, length 350-400mm.
Profile 40X40mm, length 1m.
Rod 12mm, 300mm long.

Instruments.
Welding machine.
Grinder, wheels.

Next is the press assembly process.
The 80th channel will be the base of the machine, bed.


The racks are made of 40X40mm profile, the height of these blanks is 350mm, the width along the outer edges is 270mm so that there is 110mm between them.

Now Ivan will weld these racks to the base of the bed, and then he will show the next stage of work.
I welded the guide racks to the channel, then I drilled 12 mm holes.


A rod is placed in these holes.


An eccentric will dress on the rod.

This is how the hand press will work.

On a hairpin cuts a thread on both sides.

On one side of the bar, the author brews the nut tightly.

I welded a 12mm nut from the outside of the rack, this is the seat for the second side of the bar.

Between the eccentric and the struts, I put on two bushings, from jet traction from the Lada.

Here is a cut off piece.

The bushings are needed so that the eccentric is located approximately in the middle.
Further, the author wants to strengthen this design, he will weld the spacers. This sleeve will weld here to this bar, and to the racks.



It is necessary to scald well to get a strong, monolithic structure.
Further, the moving rod supply mechanism itself will already be installed.

Reinforcements are installed and welded.

Now I’ll weld such a crescent to the moving rod.

At this point, the crescent will be welded.

And the rod will go inside the sleeve.

The press mechanism will work according to the following principle.In this position there will be a crescent moon, it is clearly adjacent to the eccentric. When turning the eccentric, the crescent will move downward, putting pressure on the stem. Thus, the effect of pressing is obtained.

Also, the stationary sleeve must be fixed on the frame itself. Welded the guide sleeve to the profile.

It will be attached to the frame like this. Also, the crescent-rod design will have a small gap so that the eccentric has a working stroke.

From this side, too, it is necessary to strengthen, because there is a weak spot, it should not be.

After that, the author welded the guide sleeve to the frame.

And you can already experiment a little with this press.

Ivan will try to press the 307th bearing into such a housing.

Installs the housing, inserts the bearing, substitutes the plate for even distribution of the pressing force.


Puts the crescent in the correct position.

And lowers the cam lever.


The press coped with its task. Pressed in such a large bearing flush.


Without any damage, clearly, quickly, and efficiently.

Now try the next, smaller one.



Everything, the clip is pressed.


This method of pressing allows you to accurately press it into the housing without damage to the bearing.
When using a hammer, or any solid objects to drive the bearing into the housing, it can be damaged. Usually the bearing cage itself is damaged, there are such difficulties.

Therefore, in the press, this is much better. That's so good device - eccentric press.

Of course, it has flaws.
It is necessary to make a guide so that the rod with the crescent does not rotate.


And also a little more to strengthen here the rod mount.

Also install a return spring on the stem itself, between it and the sleeve. This is necessary so that the rod automatically rises.

Also, this press can be used to solve other problems. For example, for punching holes, bending at an angle, and many other processes.

The author made the hairpin removable in order to be able to change it when worn, or if it is necessary to replace the eccentric. It is desirable, of course, to make the stud clear, from the best steel.

This hairpin is made of ordinary steel 3, with ordinary metal rolling. Of course, under such loads, it will not be enough for a long time. Naturally you need to make a stronger steel.

The eccentric is also from the 45th steel, but it is not red-hot, it is crude. That is, about 10-15 units of hardness, if hardened, will already be about 40 units of hardness.

The crescent that guides the stock, it is also desirable to heat it. The author here greased with solid oil in order to make it better to slip.

The guide sleeve is also desirable to make red-hot. Make the stem sleeve so that there are no gaps.
The author made it from an ordinary tube, there is a gap, and these are backlashes.

This nut allows you to adjust the pressing height.
