Japanese-style flower stand

I bring to your attention an interesting stand for flowers made of wood in a medieval style. To be more precise, it combines Japanese style with Scandinavian style. Everything looks pretty pretty, and is made of wood. The author used maple for these purposes. This tree lends itself well to processing and is also very strong. In general, everything is made quite simply and interesting if you like working with wood. On such a stand you can install a bowl of wood or ceramics. To make a cup from a tree, you will need a lathe, but you can buy a ready-made one. So, we will consider in more detail how to make such homemade!

Materials and tools used by the author:

Material List:
- wood (at your discretion, choose beautiful and durable species);
- oil for impregnation (also at your discretion).

Tool List:
- clamps;
- orbital sander (grit 120 and 180);
- a chisel for a tree;
- screwdriver;
- a circular saw;
- milling cutter;
- pencil and measuring instruments;
- sandpaper from large to small.

The process of making the stand:

Step one. Cutting workpieces
First, cut the material to the desired size. We will need 4 legs, as well as two more parts for the crosshair.

Step Two Cut holes in the legs
Next, we need to make square holes in the legs. They are needed to install struts that will hold the entire structure. The holes are first drilled with a drill with an ordinary drill at the angle indicated in the drawings, and then finalized with a chisel. We grind the holes inside with files so that everything is smooth.

Step Three Set the legs profile
If your product should look like a medieval style, its legs should be narrowed to the bottom. To begin with, we precisely mark out everything and fix each leg on a piece of a flat board. Well, then just cut the excess on a circular saw. In this business accuracy is extremely important.

Step Four Foot base
The legs of the stand will be located at a certain angle, so that they stand evenly on the surface with their entire area, they need to be cut at the right angle.The author of this angle is 5 degrees. We again carefully mark out everything and cut off the excess on a circular saw.

Step Five Crosshair Parts Profile
Those details from which we will make the crosshair need to be finalized. They need to cut out the grooves. For this, the author uses a manual milling cutter. But you can handle it with a chisel.

Step Six Locking parts
The peculiarity of the whole design is that neither glue nor self-tapping screws are used for assembly. The legs are held on the cross, and they are attached using triangular wedges, which are also made of wood. We cut out the necessary parts on a circular machine. At the ends of the crosshairs, we also cut out the corresponding holes for these wedges. When assembling the structure, you will just need to hammer the wedges with light strokes.

Seventh step. Round the details
At this step, the author proceeds to rounding the manufactured parts. He does this with a hand milling cutter. This procedure can be performed on a lathe, on a belt grinder, or even manually using sandpaper.

Step Eight. Final grinding
We proceed to the final grinding, everything should be smooth and beautiful in appearance. First we use large sandpaper, and then everything is smaller and smaller. When all grinding work is completed, the last step will remain - impregnation.

Step Nine. Impregnation of parts
All details must be impregnated with oil or varnished, as the tree does not like moisture, it will get dirty and deteriorate. It is best to emphasize the naturalness of wood using oil. We impregnate a tree with it, and then polish it. As a result, we get a product of excellent appearance.
That's all, the project is over, I hope you liked it. Good luck and creative inspiration, if you want to repeat it. Do not forget to share your ideas and best practices with us!
