Very easy to manufacture and quite comfortable handle for carrying heavy plastic bags.

Today I want to share a very simple to manufacture, but at the same time quite convenient and, most importantly, homemade product needed by almost every person.
We are talking about a special handle for carrying loaded (purchased products, goods or other things), plastic bags. This handle makes it easy to carry heavy bags and makes it more convenient. The idea of making such a pen, one might say, life itself prompted me.
As you know, we all periodically have to buy products or other goods in different stores, supermarkets or in markets. As a rule, we drive cars for big purchases, however, it often happens that before you load bags or bags with purchases into the trunk of a car, they have to be fairly dragged around.
For example, in our small town near Moscow, all trade is concentrated mainly in the center of the city. At the same time, parking lots there are often not enough for everyone, especially in the summer, when many summer residents come. As a result, one often has to park one hundred meters from the center in the adjacent streets.
Naturally, in this situation, you will not run every time to attribute to car Another package with purchased products. Therefore, packages with purchases have to be carried around in your hands, and only when they become very heavy or when they accumulate a lot can you carry them to the car.
In addition, it happens that when walking around the city on foot, it becomes necessary to go to the store and buy some products. And in this case, you generally have to carry a bag or bag to your house in your hands.
At the same time, a very big inconvenience is associated not only with the fact that the bags or bags are quite heavy, but with the fact that their handles cut their hands very much and that is why it is very inconvenient to carry them.
By the way, in order to neutralize this shortcoming, several years ago, I made about a dozen such wooden linings on the handles of bags and packages.
I made them at once for all family members, and it turned out that they are really quite comfortable. The handle of a bag or package is placed in the gutter of such a lining and as a result, it becomes much more convenient and easier to carry them.
I must say that our family still successfully uses these pads.
However, practice has shown that these pads are very convenient for carrying bags. But for packages that in recent years have almost replaced bags, they are no longer so convenient.
And the thing is in the design of most modern plastic bags, which we actually use to carry products and other goods purchased in stores.
The fact is that when applying products to these packages, they do not expand along, but across the handles. That is, something like this.
Naturally, in this position, carrying the package is very inconvenient, since it touches the legs. Therefore, almost always, when carrying such packages, you have to turn the arm in relation to the body so that the package is located along the body and does not touch the legs.
I don’t know how anyone, but I personally think that in this situation it’s very inconvenient to carry the package. Therefore, I decided to make a simple handle so that the bag could be carried like an ordinary bag, that is, without twisting the arm.
To make such a handle, I needed the following accessories:[/ u]
[u] Materials and fasteners:
• A sanded, well-dried and fairly thick branch of hardwood.
• Two self-tapping screws with a 4x35 mm press washer.
• A plastic tube from a bottle of liquid soap.
Instruments:
• Electric jigsaw with a file.
• Cordless power drill / driver.
• Drill for metal with a diameter of 2.5 - 3 mm.
• A sharp knife.
• Scissors.
• File on wood with a sharp edge.
• Screwdriver bit or PH2 screwdriver for screwdriving.
• Sandpaper.
The procedure for manufacturing the pen.
To facilitate the work, I took as a basis for the handle a well-dried elm branch. Elm has a fairly hard wood, and in addition, this particular branch has an almost perfectly round cross section and a slight bend, which will be quite convenient for the handle and it does not have to be further processed.
Although, it should be noted that as a basis, it is quite possible to take any ready-made stalk, carved from birch, with a diameter of about 20 mm, intended for a rake, mop or brush. Such a stalk can be bought at almost any hardware store. And if you can, then you can plan such a round handle and the most from a wooden bar 20x20 mm.
So, let's start making our pen.
Step 1. Sawing off the tip of the branch.
Using a jigsaw, first saw off the tip of the branch so that the end of our handle is flat.
Step 2. Cutting.
Using a sharp edge of a file on wood, we apply on the workpiece of our handle, shallow notches from two opposite sides. Thanks to these notches, our handle will not slip in the hand.
Step 3. Sawing off the handle blank.
Using a jigsaw, saw off the workpiece of our handle from the branch. The length of this blank, I made approximately equal to the width of my hand.
Step 4. Drilling holes in the centers of the ends of the workpiece.
In the center of each end face of the workpiece of our handle, we drill a hole with a diameter of 2.5-3 mm and a depth of about 25 mm. This is necessary so that when wrapping the screws, our workpiece does not crack.
Step 5. Preparation of plastic tubes.
Using scissors, cut two small pieces of 8-10 mm long from a plastic tube from a bottle of liquid soap. The length of these segments should be the same.
After that, we put our segments on the screws.
These plastic tubes are needed in order to protect the handles of plastic bags from the sharp thread of self-tapping screws.
Step 6. Screwdriving.
Using a screwdriver or screwdriver, we wrap our screws in the holes in the ends of the handle blank.
Step 7. Finalization and finishing of the finished pen.
We are finalizing our handle, for which we carefully cut small irregularities with a knife.
And also we carry out finishing processing of the pen with sandpaper of different grain sizes.
And now our pen is ready!
I have not yet varnished or painted this pen. Although in the future this can be done.
Now let's try our pen in action.
To do this, put on the ends of the handle, the handle of the plastic bag.
The loaded bag holds on our handle quite reliably, but the main thing is that it is now very convenient to carry it, because it is located along the body and does not touch the legs.
I must say that even before this article was written, I managed to test this pen several times in the actual transfer of food packages. And she really was very comfortable.
Moreover, one more convenience of using such a pen was revealed. The fact is that when the bag hangs on this handle, its neck is quite wide open. So you can safely put more products in this package (though not very large in size) without removing it from the handle.
Another advantage is that this handle is inserted into the gutter of the linings, which I wrote about above. Thus, the handle inserted inside the lining becomes a very compact kit that is convenient to carry in your pocket.
Perhaps the only, but very insignificant drawback of this handle is its small diameter (approximately 16 mm.). Although this drawback is almost not felt, but I think that it is desirable to make such a handle a little thicker, that is, with a diameter of 18-20 mm. It seems to me that such a pen will be more convenient to lie in the hand. Therefore, in the future I will probably make several more of these pens of a slightly larger diameter.
Nevertheless, I want to note that if one of the readers wants to make such a pen, it’s better to still choose all its parameters, for example, the length and diameter of the pen, according to your hand, that is, to whom it is more convenient.
