Robotic snake without electronics

Today, the author of Instructables under the nickname Techgenie talked about where electronics there is. And he brought a link to the first, in which it is not - only an electrician. It is more elegant, and it will be discussed in my translation.

If you still don’t want you to have one, watch the video and wish this device to your home from the first seconds of viewing:

The master cuts out the links of the robotic snake from cardboard:

Extracts from a sheet:

Makes square holes for rollers in them:

Which makes of beads and paper clips, greetings "DU Vasily Biletsky":

Fixes the axis of the rollers with a glue gun, makes sure that the rollers themselves are not jammed with glue. Drills holes for connecting links:

Adheres a triangular holder for DC motors:

Applies engines, notes where to drill holes for shafts, drills, threaded shafts, glues engines:

On the shafts of engines makes hot-melt adhesive balls:

Connects links with ... wire and buttons:

The robotic snake is assembled, but it is still motionless:

He cuts cardboard strips, takes a four-wire cable, solders two wires to each of the engines, fastens with the first strip:

And the rest:

It takes two switches to three positions (middle to off) and two directions, as well as a piece of a perfboard-type breadboard:

Using jumpers, turns both switches into reversible ones:

He makes springs for the 18650 battery from paper clips, puts it. Don’t do it! Take the finished compartment! Use the battery only with protection! Better yet, a compartment for 2 pcs. AA or AAA with appropriate cells or batteries.

Longitudinal staples adds to keeping the battery in place:

So while the back side of the remote control board looks:

The master connects the cable of the robosnake, makes connections according to the scheme:

Now the flip side of the remote control board looks different. The cable is fixed with hot-melt adhesive, it is important that there is an insulating layer of this adhesive between it and the breadboard. Now this side of the board needs to be covered with a dielectric, since self-induction pulses occur when the motors are turned off.

That’s all done:

Due to the design features of the robosnake, with the same switch positions, the motors must rotate in opposite directions. If this is not the case, one of them must be reversed. After that, experimentally choose the position of the remote control, in which the forward position of both switches corresponds to the forward movement. Engines can be stopped and reversed separately, forcing the robosnake to perform various tricks.
