Mushroom knife

Hello everyone !!! A couple of days ago, a friend asked me to make him a small knife for his work, he works on mushrooms. I usually start the horn on Saturdays the way I work from eight in the morning until eight in the evening, and after work, I somehow don’t have enough strength for the horn, and on Saturday I have five hours free and spend it on my favorite hobby: Forging.

Since there are still three days until Saturday, I did not wait and decided to make a knife at work in my free time. I will not forge this knife, I will only stab it a bit, although metal is so-so. A friend doesn’t need a particularly durable mushroom knife.

And so I proceed to the manufacture of the knife, for the knife I took a sheet of metal 2mm and that's it.

Tool: grinder, hacksaw and drill.

Here is a sheet of metal, I wanted to take it thicker and even changed my mind, soft mushrooms they do not need to make efforts to cut it. Such a metal does not make sense to temper, but I will try, maybe something will change.

I draw an approximate profile of a knife. There were many options, but somehow settled on this simple option, I also want to shred the handle on the handle, a friend likes such things.

I cut out the grinder according to the drawn pattern. Near the future blade, I cut it carefully, after each centimeter I cut it, I cool it with a cloth dampened with water, otherwise the metal will become even softer

I clamp the workpiece in a vice and grind the edges of the knife, removing sharp edges. I grind the flap grinding disc with abrasive 60.

Now I grind the entire surface of the knife, I won’t do the downhill in the mirror.

I decided to decorate the knife a little, for this I take two pieces of metal equal to the extension of the knife handle and cut out the desired profile

Well, almost it seems.

Gently weld the profile at low currents, the metal is thin.

I drill my eyes, make incisions in the form of nostrils, glow the blade with a gas burner and dip it in heated oil, and so four times, for the fifth time I only heat the blade descent and dip it in salt water. After hardening, I etched in a solution of iron chloride by first dissolving the shavings of zinc and chromium in it, a thin crust of these metals formed on the surface of the knife, so it would rust less.

Well, our mushroom picker is ready

Well, our knife is ready, cuts well, sits comfortably in the hand. Quenching a little corrected the metal harder became. This knife is not for hard work, but for small work.

Well, thank you all for your attention and to new homemade friends.

Before the invention of the rope is still very far away ...)))))
Well ... I wouldn’t be good at such a craft.
And a bunch of errors in the text.
In general, there is room for development.
