Greetings to lovers of craftsmen, this time we will consider how do it yourself make an unusual lamp in the form of a spiral. Looks homemade quite interesting, although it is made not difficult and from the available materials. Of course, you will need to find finished lamellas or cut them on a circular saw, but all other materials are more easily found. Lamp manufacturing process:
Step one. Making spirals
We begin the manufacture of the lamp from the manufacture of spirals, in total they will need to make 3 pieces. As material we need thin lamellas, the author cuts them himself from the boards on a circular saw.
Next, you will need to find a template on which we will form our spirals. For such purposes, a cardboard tube, on which linoleum, film and other building materials are wound, is suitable. We glue the lamels into blocks using carpentry glue, fix them with rubber bands. It is necessary to form spirals until the glue has dried, after drying the glue will fix the spiral in its position. We make markings on the pipe and turn the spiral around the pipe, tie the whole thing with ropes and wait until the glue dries.
Step Two Grinding
The glue has dried, now we need to grind the spirals well, here we need the help of a belt sander. We cut off the excess with a hacksaw and proceed to grinding. The result is excellent workpieces.
Step Three Disks
To combine the spirals into a lamp, we need to make three circles of the same diameter. First, we glue the boards, in order to get the blanks, you need areas for cutting circles. All boards must be of the same thickness so that they can be driven on the thicknesser. Well, or the boards can simply be sanded to the desired thickness. It is best to glue boards on dowels, so everything will be very tightly held.
When the boards stick together, you can cut circles, then we need a tape cutting machine for work. After cutting, we grind the discs to a smooth state. At the end, we drill holes in the center of the discs, the diameter should be such that the copper tube fits tightly into the disc.
Step Four Tube preparation
Prepare the tube, we need to polish it to a mirror shine. The author made a special adapter from a wooden rod, so that the pipe can be rotated with a drill. Well, then we work as a lathe with fine sandpaper. Immediately after polishing, the pipe must be varnished or oiled, otherwise the copper will quickly darken.
Step Five Lamp assembly
Getting to the assembly of the lamp, start from the bottom. We install the lower disk and insert a copper pipe into it, put on the pipe a second disk, which will be in the middle. Now a spiral can be attached to these two disks, we use elastic bands for temporary fixation. At the end, we also install the upper disk, finally we align everything and fix it with clamps.
Now the spirals can be fixed, here we need screws. We drill holes, tighten everything with screws, the caps of the screws should be recessed in the wood. From above the holes we hammer in pegs and grind these places with an orbital machine. As a result, self-tapping screws are not visible and the whole structure looks solid.
Step Six Impregnation and light bulb
We cover the wood with oil or wax, this impregnation emphasizes the natural beauty of the wood and protects it perfectly.
Now you can install the bulbs, we pass the cable through the copper tube and install the bulb holder at the end of the tube. That's all, the lamp is almost ready, it remains to make a ceiling.
Seventh step. Shade
We make a lamp shade, it is very simple, we need a dense matte film. Cut off the desired piece and turn it into a cylinder inside the lamp spiral. That's all, after this homemade product is completely ready. The lamp shines perfectly, here you can put any bulb in brightness. Homemade looks pretty impressive too.
