Such trays and turntables are common in Chinese restaurants and are called "Lazy Susan." The origin of the name is difficult to establish, and the invention is contested by several countries.
To make such a tray, the master used the following
Tools and materials:
-A circular saw:
-Bandsaw machine;
-Jointer;
-Grinder;
Milling cutter;
-Drill;
-Wood;
-Turning platform;
-Scissors;
-Screwdriver;
-Fasteners;
- Danish oil;
- Clamps;
-Protective material;
- Joiner glue:
-Super glue;
Step One: Material Preparation
The first step is the master procures the material. The tray will be made of several planks. The master cuts them to size and passes them through the planer. Then cuts thin strips of wood for insertion.
Then the strips are glued together.
Step Two: Insert
Now you need to paste the inserts. For this operation, the master first cuts out the template from cardboard, and then, according to the template, cuts the tray.
Now you need to glue the wooden strip and glue both halves.
The master performs the same operation for gluing the second strip. The only difference is that the master slightly changes its location.
Step Three: Trimming
Before the next operation, the master drives the tray through the planer.
Then he takes a round tray of suitable size, puts it on the workpiece and outlines it. Now you need to cut the workpiece along the line.
Step Four: Processing
The edge of the tray is milled, the tray is ground and coated with oil.
Step Five: Turntable
Now it remains to screw the turntable to the bottom of the tray and paste over it with protective material.
The "Lazy Susan" tray is ready, the master made two such copies.
The whole process of making the tray can be seen in the video.
