I welcome fans to craft, I propose to consider the instructions for the manufacture of a simple belt sander. The author’s turns on the grinding belt turned out to be not too high, but the torque is enough to grind plywood, bars and so on. As a basis, the author used the engine from the washing machine, which are different in power, and you can choose the one that suits you. Quite powerful is the engine from the washing machine. The frame for the machine is made of plywood, in general, the project is not complicated and inexpensive in the presence of materials. Materials and tools used by the author:
Material List:

Machine manufacturing process:
Step one. Preparation of materials
To begin with, we will prepare all the necessary materials for the machine, we need to cut plywood or chipboard into the parts from which the machine will be made. Dimensions of parts can be seen in the photo. Of course, our material is quite dense and you need to cut a lot, so you need to have at least a jigsaw.
Step Two Lead roller
We install the drive roller on the motor shaft, for such purposes, the author selected a coupling for plastic pipes of such a diameter that it can be tightly put on the shaft pulley. To adjust the shaft pulley to the desired size, turn on the engine and work with a file as on a lathe. Next, the clutch is carefully filled on the pulley, it should hold tight, glue can be used as an additional fixation.
A piece of plumbing pipe is inserted into the coupling, which serves as the driving roller.For better adhesion to the sanding belt, the roller can be glued with rubber from the bicycle chamber.
Step Three Frame assembly
You can start assembling the frame, everything is going on self-tapping screws. The author has a special vice that allows you to conveniently fix parts for drilling holes.
We also install the engine, securely fasten it with bolts and nuts. There will be two holes in the countertop, one under the driven roller, and the other under the lead.
Step Four Driven roller
We also make the driven roller from a piece of the plumbing pipe, two bearings must be pressed into the pipe. As an axis we use a long bolt or a threaded rod. The axis of the driven roller is attached to a special platform made of plywood, this platform can move under the countertop in the horizontal direction, as a result of which the grinding belt will be tensioned.
For convenient belt tensioning, the author adapted a long threaded rod with a nut that pulls the platform, thereby pulling the grinding belt. As for the alignment of the belt, then this function is not provided. It is important to fix the rollers so that the axes do not converge, but move apart a little, if viewed from above, then the belt will not fly off.
Step Five Finishing touches
At the end, we focus on the sanding belt, and also install a switch on the machine. After installing the sanding belt, homemade ready to run. Grinds the car perfectly, enough torque. Of course, such a machine is poorly suited for metal processing, but in general, homemade work is useful.
