It happens that for a project specific springs of a certain length and diameter are needed, which you can not buy in hardware and construction stores.

Manufacturing process.
Here is the first part of this device for winding springs. This is a short section of an inch metal pipe to which a piece of steel is welded to the side. This part is fixed in a vice.
Do not worry if you do not have welding skills, or a welding machine, because by and large this element is not so important. At the end of the article, the author will show how to do without it.
The second part of this device is a half-inch section of a pipe with a hole drilled in the second side and a tee that is screwed onto one of the pipe ends. This is a regular tee with ¾ by ½ inch, which here serves as a holder for the handle.
Of course, you can use pipes or steel bars of smaller or larger diameters in the manufacture of springs. Their final diameter depends on this. The same goes for the wire itself.
The hole drilled in the pipe should grab the end of the wire and hold it during rotation of the pipe.
So, the device is connected, and another pipe, fittings, or mount is inserted into the tee.
The author begins winding by tightly pressing the pipe with the wire inserted into it to the corner so that the first turns of the spring are obtained with the most dense winding. The corner gives the wire a solid stop. So it takes very little effort to guide the turns, and manually maintain the distance between the turns that you need.
It is important to remember that not every wire is suitable for winding springs.The best choice is a string wire, which is sold in hardware stores or hardware stores in pieces of a meter in length.
When the length of the wire comes to an end, a somewhat dangerous moment comes, because by this moment the spring has already acquired excess voltage. And if at this moment the end of the spring slips out, it will unwind in several revolutions in a split second and can seriously damage your hands. Therefore, it is preferable to wear safety glasses and work gloves during this procedure.
When the finished spring is removed from the pipe, in some areas it may look somewhat careless. These flaws can be removed with a pair of pliers.
As for the ends of the spring itself, you can either bite them off if they are inaccurately bent, or heat them with a torch, and bend them at the right angle.
It is not recommended to heat the inner rings to a high temperature, since this can change the structure of the metal, allowing the spring to maintain the desired shape.
You can wind the springs without a corner, manually. Only this will be somewhat more difficult and, again, double attention at the end of the process, as gently let go of the wire edge. Of course, it is better to take a longer wire and bite it.
