Folding lamp out of the box

This Instructables lamp under the nickname stefano.guagliardo is an upturned box over which the lid levitates - although in fact it is held by a mesh cylinder glued to the lamp:

If you unscrew the lamp, you can put the lid on the box and move the lamp to another place, where you can bring it back to working position, more on this later.

The master takes such a box with a lid. So far, it does not comply with the wonderful rule of Dieter Rams "good design is as little design as possible." But nothing will be soon.

The master turns the box over and makes a hole in its bottom with a diameter of the base E27:

Trying on - it turned out right:

Cuts a cardboard cylindrical sleeve so that its height is slightly less than the height of the box:

Makes a base from plywood and checks if it is included in the box:

Divides the sleeve into two parts according to the height of the lamp holder:

Marks plywood base:

Cuts a smaller piece of plywood, secures a lamp holder on it:

At the bottom of the split sleeve, makes a recess for the cord, tries on:

Connects with four long self-tapping screws - roughly, but firmly:

Makes a hole in the box for the cord, which leads out:

With a cylindrical comb attached to some hair dryers, removes the main part - the mesh cylinder. Marks and makes a hole in the box lid, the diameter of which is slightly larger than the diameter of this cylinder:

Putting the box and the lid on the foil, using black heat-resistant paint brings them into line with the rule "good design - this is as little design as possible":

At the same time, having screwed the lamp into the old lamp found in the household, he also paints it. Not all, of course, but only from below:

Deforms the top of the cylinder as shown below:

It covers the board with the lamp holder upside down, screws in the lamp, glues the cylinder to it with the side where there is no deformation:

A thick wire retainer passes through the grid above the lamp and places a lid on it:

From above, a huge nut is screwed onto the deformed part of the cylinder. If you don’t have one, you can cut something like that out of plastic.

The lamp is ready:

You can use:

Folding lamp out of the box

To bring the lamp into the transport position, turn it off, remove the latch, put the lid on the box, turn the lamp out. The order of bringing the lamp into working position is the reverse. It is inconvenient only that each new lamp must also be painted and re-glued onto it from below.
