Like all owners of the VAZ 2115 car, I was faced with the fact that after several years of operation, the trunk lid did not want to be fixed in the open position. But the Slavic “maybe” shifted this unsolved problem “for later” all the time. However, when I several times, rather painfully, got a heavy lid on my back, when I got something from the trunk, I immediately started looking for options. There were only three of them:
• Replace / tighten regular torsion bars;
• Put the springs from the clutch pedal "classics";
• Install gas shock absorbers.
I rejected the first option right away, since there was a high probability of breaking the rear window of the car, the springs were good only in the first days, then they stretched out and generally ceased to cope with the weight (shortening them did not help either, the effect is the same). Therefore, there were only gas stops from Kalina, Samara or Niva. But the videos that came across to me on the network revealed one and the same peculiarity: the trunk lid with two stops simply “fired”, but with one it simply skewed.
However, being in the hardware store "Do it yourself", I came across gas stops for use with furniture cabinets.
And besides their quite small dimensions,
they had a very modest rigidity: two, three, or even four times softer than automotive counterparts. And since the desire to try was spurred on by them at the same ridiculous price (about $ 3 per pair), I bought two pieces with a hardness of 120N.
I also needed a riveting gun,
and ten staves, 4.8 mm in diameter and 10 mm long. Although if he is not on the farm - it does not matter. You will successfully replace this version of hardware with M4 ... M5 screws and nuts.
I also needed a cordless screwdriver,
and the cross bit. Although if you have access to a 220V outlet, you can use an ordinary electric drill and the appropriate screwdriver.
Still need a drill with a diameter of 5 mm,
core (drilling in the round guides of the trunk lid is still a pleasure),
a hammer for him
and support for the cover. A flat powerful screwdriver with a long sting perfectly fits this "role".
You will need a thin awl (they just need to open the locks of the gas stops when trying on),
and a thin honed pencil.
In addition, two strips of metal with a thickness of 2.5 or more millimeters (thinner just bend), and sizes 25 to 300 mm. That's all, we begin to "create."
In addition to the gas lift itself, in addition to the screws (we do not need them), there are three types of hinges:
• flat
• round
• and L-shaped. The first two will be needed, but the last one, do not rush to throw it away. It may still be useful to us (see below for how).
We drill holes. At what distance do you understand from the drawing,
and on the rivets to the center, fasten the round hinge. By the way, regular hinge holes themselves also need to be drilled, or rivets and the drill itself should be made thinner.
We unscrew the four screws above the arches of the rear wheels holding the upholstery. And having drilled all the same drill a 5 mm hole in the upholstery under the hinge itself, we fix these strips on the right and left. Moreover, the strips should be fixed so that the long part to the hinge is located closer to the rear lights, and the short part deep into the trunk.
Now we try on the mating parts of the joints of the gas stops on the round racks of the trunk lid, drill,
and fix them with the same rivets. We close the trunk lid, the hinge will slightly bend to a convenient shape, so do it not abruptly, but smoothly.
Now do the same on the other side.
Do you remember that at the very beginning of the article I recommended not throwing out the third hinge? So, if you made a mistake in size, and drilled the rack in the wrong place, you do not need to re-drill it. Just bend the hinge. It has longer eyelets, allowing it to be slightly adjusted in the same plane.
That's all the wisdom, now the trunk lid of your VAZ 2115 will not cause you any trouble for a long time,
But it will be very gently closed / opened, and at the angle you need, and fixed in the required position. And even if the gas stops deteriorate, exchanging them for new ones is as easy as shelling pears, and the costs are minimal.
