My and your recommendations for digging a trench under the water supply

I am struggling with my mega-project, digging a trench of 120 meters for the water supply, because the relief does not allow to close the well, and drilling a well is expensive and risky.

The pipe will go to the 32nd PND (probably), and since the pump is an ejector, there will also be a pipe that will drive water back to the well, into the ejector, here the pipe will be at 25. But this is not about that.

It would seem a stupid thing to dig a trench, but you will dig its eternity without experience and some knowledge. Here is sharing info, how I dig it. You can add something of your own, I will be glad to interesting thoughts on facilitating digging (from super-shovels to super-machines).

Start digging:

Of the instruments, a strong bayonet shovel and a strong shovel, and indeed, everything should be strong, but light! :)

1. First of all, we remove the sod, as a result, we outline the path along which we will dig a trench. So it will be morally easier and simpler. Remove the sod with a bayonet shovel, well sharpened. She cuts everything, and roots, and turf. But we don’t take the “tired” shovel, it’s useless to cook it, it’ll break apart anyway.

2. Digging. I shoot level by level, each level - one bayonet. In total, the depth of the trench is not less than a meter, I don’t know for sure how much, but above my navel))) And my height is 180, I’ll also focus on the navel.

We hit with a bayonet, we throw out the shovel
In the process of digging, I came to the conclusion that digging with a bayonet shovel is a thankless task. We have to bend over many times, the ground grab is small. As a result, my back is very tired, it hurts, you can’t fulfill the norm, and the norm is 5 meters a day (I dig in the evening, maybe 3 hours, I don’t know for sure).

As a result, he began only to pierce the layer with a bayonet shovel, and I throw away loose rocks quickly and simply with a shovel, she takes it already as an excavator, and thanks to the convenient profile, you do not need to bend your back very much, and this is very important!

I first tried to punch in front of me, but you won’t get far enough, but right away you go and throw out the shovel that you pick. I punch at least a bayonet, in fact another plus centimeters 5. But this method is more tiring, you need strong hands.
A simpler way is to go backwards, we drive the shovel with our foot and loosen the soil, you do not need to throw it out and bend! Well, and then, when they rake on a bayonet along the entire length, we climb up with a scoop and throw everything away.

In general, when working with a bayonet shovel, we always go backwards, and when working with a shovel, we go forward.

Width
The width of the ditch is one of the most important points, its slight expansion leads to a very complicated work, since there is a lot of soil to dig. I begin to dig a ditch quite widely, the first layer of the bayonet and a half, then less and less, to the bottom of the trench converges to the width of a shovel. If you make the ditch narrow throughout its depth, it will be very difficult to walk, but most importantly, you will not be able to pull out the shovel “along the curve”, you will cling to the ditch all the time. And raising a shovel in front of you in a narrow ditch is a difficult task.
As a result, the ditch has the shape of a trapezoid.

Digging features
When I started to dig, there was a drought, the top layer was very dense, it beat him for a long time and tediously. Everywhere we have clay here, there is very little land on top, however, on the edge of the hillock there were 60 centimeters of land for sure, apparently alluvial.
As a result, I decided to remove sod in a drought, it rained and the clay was well wetted. Now everything digs fine, no need to break through a dense layer. And it’s best to dig in the spring, then the earth and other soils are very soft due to water saturation.
I chose the depth depending on the climate, -30 is rare here, I don’t think that clay will freeze even by 50 cm, not to mention more than a meter. In extreme cases, you can actively use the water supply system on critical days and it certainly will not freeze.

Waiting for your suggestions and opinions about the project..
The pump will be suction, with an ejector, designed for a suction depth of 30 meters, the height difference I have is not more than 10 meters.
I have 10 days left, if 5 m pass every day, and we will drill a well, well, or dig a "calodez"))

tests will be soon ... will not pull, will be submersible. Thanks for the opinion!
Vadim Alekseev
Judging by the return pipe and the mention of the Ejector, you are planning a pumping station, my advice as a plumber:
1 Only HDPE pipe from 32 and above diameter.
2 Do not be greedy and throw the cable Num 2.5x3 in a black polypropylene corrugation - it will come in handy when you decide to put a submersible pump (And decide, I guarantee), and the electricity at the well / well will come in handy),
3 Throw the pipe with foam (you can trim, old, foam)
4. Note that 120 meters of pipe with eats from 20 to 40% of the pump power - there is a high probability that the household station will not pull or will work at the limit (there is no complete data how much to the water mirror)
And so - respect and respect

Yes, you are a bit warmer, but tomorrow it will freeze)))

We have not had a minus ....
Where are you buying cognac?))))
P.S. I don’t like cognacs! Really, I’m tasting Greek brandies like Metaxa. It has been standing in the bar for a very long time, the cobbed Genesi .. For what are there such grandmothers ??? For the fact that it was produced in the province of “cognac” ?, (as these Dartanyans distort our word when they write))))
It’s real to me that even the cheaper Greek “Athens” tastes better ... Although you can buy it in Dutyfree for six, it seems, dollars ... And not for 50 or more, like Genesee ...

I pushed a wide plastic snowplow like a blade))) So half I shift, the rest is already shovel. Where the bricks are. roots and other cocoa, especially hard, you can’t move.

Today it has froze, it has become easier, the upper slurry has become crusty, we have -8 temporarily and a wind turbine, for the sake of a holiday, then again warm.
I just raked-shoved. But you, apparently, it settled down already specifically. Do not rake.

is it so hard for me to bury? 15 minutes and all wet, digging is really easier. I dig a hole yesterday 120 and it’s much easier. Give recommendations for digging a trench xaxa

And the most annoying, Which is enough for very little, and the depth is not enough ....

But how to dig in the forest where there are only roots and water. I think that it makes no sense for a pipe to dig even a trench, we need a gap so that the pipe fits. It is made by a chainsaw on a long tire, though the chain is then dumped.
Guest Shurik
Add a mechanization method. The marking as you described, but I dug a screw with a diameter of 200-250 mm with a motor-drill using my trench (depending on what width of the trench is required). In general, the scheme of work is as follows: the storm is the first hole, into the drilled hole I insert the bucket flush with the ground surface of the placed trench and the storm is next to the first. Using a screw, soil from drilling is thrown into the bucket set in the first hole, empty it as it is filled, the bucket returns to its original place and repeat all the steps until the screw reaches the required depth. After using this method, the intended path remains with a bayonet shovel to cut off the bridges between the holes and select loose soil from the almost finished trench. I did it with a big hoe.

that garbage, then drainage. And you’ll probably drive that bayonet-soviet dick, except maybe into the ground. Type "American"?

Well, they do it, but there is no walk-behind tractor. And the whole problem is in depth. At the ass level it should be wide, the pelvis will not crawl

I’m digging with a shovel that I have already looked at in a store for a long time. This is a half-bayonet - half-bayonet. Very convenient and slaughter and scoop
depth 50cm and 8cm wide, which was just enough for laying the cable.

Under the cable laid 70 cm depth.

At one time, there was a need to dig a trench under the electric cable. From the house to the pillar 75 meters. He began to dig from the house with a shovel, to a depth of 2 bayonets and the width of a shovel. I dug 60 meters a day (clay soil), dug to the road and moved the last 15 meters the next day. The next day, I realized that you can’t take the dirt-packed road with a shovel, and picked up a pickaxe. On the one hand, sharp, on the other hand flat (about 8 cm), shoulders about 50 cm long. I dug the road for a couple of hours and decided to go with a pickax as well.It turned out that it is very convenient to dig with a pickaxe - it turns out a trench 50 cm deep and 8 cm wide, which was just enough for laying the cable. And less effort is spent, because take out less soil. )
Great mike
The dragline is beautiful, but pampering ...

very interesting, thanks. And what is your depth? Although you will not answer me, probably))

Also, like the author, long and hard, he dug a trench under the pipe. For three days of work, he dug up 30 meters and was very tired. Decides to attract wage workers. Found the Uzbeks. They in 4 hours, together, dug up the remaining 40 meters. What's the secret? They dug hoes. Long heavy choppers. They didn’t climb into the trench. From the top, they chopped and pulled out the soil. I note that I have clay. Good luck.
Guest Alex
I saw a video, there the Uzbeks at first plow the trench with a walk-behind tractor, then they dig out with a shovel.
You also have to dig under water, there is time to think about this way.
I don’t think it will give anything ... Weight is important in a pick. She is like a cross ax !!! A shovel is more convenient to "prick with a bayonet" ...
Author
Yes, maybe just make a broken shovel at a right angle and beat like a type hoe or pickaxe?
I had no options. He broke several bayonets until he thought of a pickaxe ...
If he picks up a shovel, a pick is not needed ...
Author
also thought about a pick, but hell knows, never picked it up)) I think it will be uncomfortable
By the way, when I was digging under the gas, the soil was "especially soulful" - a mixture of sand and slag ...))) The old pickaxe, which has been lying in the barn from the last, probably a century, helped a lot (literally, from the 19th)) )). The house was very old.) The handle went completely rotten. It crumbled with a sweep. The pickaxe itself was rusty, but strong. He knocked down a sledgehammer, smeared a pickaxe on her handle (a sledgehammer is big. The meter handle))). Beauty!! Passed with a pickaxe (wide part). Return - shovel chose. And so - until he got to the soft.
The excavator needed to be done-)))

or such
Author
kaneshno!) Thanks for the advice!
P.S. Took the music from the library?))))
In general, when working with a bayonet shovel, we always go backwards, and when working with a shovel, we go forward.

I had to dig a lot of trenches in my life ... And in the army, trenches, and under water (1.4 meters) and under gas (1, 7, put some kind of new project into the project) ... And this week I will dig under the telephone and under electricity ... But this is already shallow - 70 cm.)))
He also came to the conclusion that you need to dig that way - I walk backwards, dig a bayonet, immediately throwing it aside. I come back in front with the shovel, throwing out everything that the bayonet loosened ... And so - the full length of the trench ... When I punched hard ground, I only went with the “shufla” ... She dug it ...
