Hello dear readers of the site!
In the welding business, I am an amateur, and so far I have used various objects to beat off slag, from a hammer to all kinds of metal objects that could be used to knock slag from a weld. Already going to go buy a similar creation, but ...
On the Internet, I saw how the master made a hammer out of an old file.
Since I am Plyushkin, I certainly found such an unnecessary file.
Tools and material
- file
- round rod 16mm
- metal cutting and grinding wheel
- Angle grinder (grinder)
- ear brush
- welding machine and welding helmet
- spray paint
- degreaser
- RESPIRATOR, PROTECTIVE GOGGLES, PROTECTIVE HEADPHONES and MANDATORY KNOWLEDGE OF SAFETY
Step 1: Material Selection
As already written, I am Plyushkin. I collect everything that can be put into business well or useful in the household.
So for the hammer I found among my rubbish just the right file.
Having carefully examined it for professional suitability, I found that it was no longer suitable, the entire working surface was almost worn off, not completely, but after trying it for its intended purpose, I realized that it was not in vain that they gave it to me for scrap, and the rust on it there were so many. He left it for those reasons that, in principle, knives for a plastic crusher can be made from it ...
Having decided on how he, the hammer, should look, I decided to cut it from the side where the handle is installed.
Before you cut off the future striker, it should be clamped in general condition, because a large workpiece is easier to clamp than a small one. From the side of the hilt, it was already broken off. At this point, I decided to imprison him in defiance.
.
As was sharpened, measured approximately how the eye liked it, and cut it off with a grinder at an angle of 90 degrees.
Now, as it is trimmed (sawn off), you need to grind it on both sides to the shape of an hatchet. This form is better at slagging than it will be blunt. I put the grinding wheel on the grinder and began to grind it to the shape of an “ax”.
We get the striker of the future welding hammer.
Step 2: handle
Among the available rubbish, it was not possible to find a more suitable piece of iron. I have a large number of round rods with a diameter of 16 mm. I was going to either turn them into scrap metal or concrete them somewhere. I was tortured to rearrange them from place to place.
I cut it with a length of 20 cm. From one end in the middle I made a slot 5 mm deep along the width of the striker.
I decided to make such a cut from those considerations that, being in the groove during welding, he would be better able to hold than if I welded it simply from the butt. Sooner or later, power loads in the form of strikes will make themselves felt and the striker will break off.
The hammer is ready.
Step 3: Cleaning and Painting
After it was finished, it still had old paint on it.
She removed it with a brush on the grinder.
Result on the face.
Well, now how it is cleaned can be painted, of course, you must degrease in advance.
Painted in yellow so that he could not get lost in the workshop, and the paint has long been standing, the homemade product for which it was bought is still not finished.
It's just that you can make a useful thing out of old scrap metal. You don’t have to go buy in a store, even if they are not expensive, but their quality is not known.
Thank you for reading! Good to all!
