How to breathe a second life into an old but beloved roulette

Good day to all, dear friends - friends! In today's rather short article, I would like to show you a rather interesting idea homemade. This homemade productcraft it’s done very quickly, but it can help a lot if your favorite roulette, for one reason or another, suddenly broke down, namely, if the locking mechanism that allows you to hold the tape measure in a certain position has broken, so you can make it very convenient measurements.

In principle, this homemade product can also be used to modernize cheap "Chinese" roulette for 50 rubles. At the end of the article there will be a video from the author of this homemade product, if something is not clear, you can safely watch the video. Well, enough of the long preface, let's go!

And so, for this simple homemade product you will need:
-metal square profile, with sides about 2 cm (well, generally you need to take one so that the tape of your roulette can move freely there
-Two thick bolts (about 1 cm in diameter)
ball bearing
a pair of washers under the bolts
two bolt nuts
non-working roulette

From the tools, you will also need:
-welding machine
-drill
- drills with a diameter of bolts (i.e. 1 cm)
Roulette (which is surprising)
marker or pencil

Well, first of all, you need to cut off the desired piece from the profile. The author does not show the length of this workpiece, but I can assume that its length is about 10-12 cm, but I think you can do it shorter:

Then, in a couple of centimeters from one of the ends of the workpiece, measure the center with a tape measure and make a mark. After that, we take a drill and a drill according to the diameter of the bolts and drill one of the faces of the workpiece. You should get a straight through hole.

Take one bolt and nut. We screw the nut in advance onto the bolt, after which we insert the bolt into the hole previously drilled and install the nut evenly. Take the welding machine and weld the nut to the base of the workpiece (only the nut):

The next step is to turn the whole structure over and fix it on two wooden blocks. On the opposite side of the workpiece, we apply a bolt with the hat down (as shown in the photo) and make marks with a marker. Then, observing all safety precautions, we weld a bolt. Everything must be done as shown in the photo:

Now, we put the ball bearing on the second bolt, put the washers on and fix the whole thing with a second nut so that the bearing is pressed, but can rotate.By the way, if the second bolt is long, then it can always be cut with a grinder.

As we see in the photo below, the first bolt can go down and up, this is necessary to fix the tape from the tape measure, and this is the whole setting that this “device” needs:

Well, then, a simple clamp for roulette, also with a movable roller for more smooth movement on the surface, is ready and it remains only to test it! To do this, take the old roulette and plywood sheet (well, or any other flat blank for testing), pass the measuring tape of the roulette to the beginning of the blank (where the roller is) and fix it with the first bolt. If the fixation is not very strong, then you can even actively clamp it, that is, when you pull out the tape and it immediately fixes itself. Well, the video simply helps to move on the surface, which undoubtedly gives +1 to comfort.

Well, here’s such a straightforward homemade work, I think someone will definitely like it and come in handy.

Well, thank you all for your attention and good luck in future projects, friends!

Crap is full. And how a manual surface gage will not work. because a right angle cannot be sustained, and like a roulette the still-born idea is a heavy, not convenient, “hold-down bolt” very soon will damage the divisions of the line itself, so the canvas will also bend.

I use a simple elbow square with no ruler
